St. Louis. ......The <Weather>, Saturday, was windy and dusty, though not to the same extent as the day previous. .The dust flew to such an extent however as to render both business and traveling very disagreeable. The probilities [sic] were that before many days we would be favored with a rain,, which was greatly needed. ......<Business> on the levee was more than usually brisk. Several boats were at the landing at the same time receiving and discharging freight. ......The <Bowen> left yesterday with only a moderate trip of freight and passengers. ......The <Lue Eaves> departed for South Carrolton with a good load. ......The <Masonic Gem> took her departure for Mt. Carmel with a light load. It becomes the Wabash boats to load light if they expect to make any progress up that stream. ......The <Kentucky> passed down, it being her last trip as the Louisville and Cairo mail boat. We presume she will be withdrawn from the Louisville and Memphis trade shortly. ......The swift <Dunbar> is the regular Paducah packet. She leaves at 12 o'clock. Capt. Fowler is still, in command and clerks Dusouchet and Bunce are found in the office. The <Dunbar> is a regular clipper and offers, the best kind of accommodations to all who take passage on her. ......The <Lue Eaves> is the regular South Carrolton packet this afternoon. The <Eaves> is deservedly one of the most popular little boats that runs up Green river, and Capts. McDonald and Taylor are adding daily to its reputation. ......The <Grey Eagle> met with a mishap near Shawneetown, on Friday, which has compelled her to lay up for a while. She was struck by a squall of wind, and both her chimneys were blown overboard. The damage received by her is considerable, and some time will be necessary in order to make all necessary repairs. ......The <Greenville> left for Green river with a fair trip on Saturday evening. The Bowling Green also backed out about the same time. ......The <Republic> lay at the landing all day and received, we presume, about 800 tons of freight. ......On Saturday night the <Science: arrived from the Wabash with a light cargo, but as much as the stage of the water would admit. ......On Saturday night rain, which had been anxiously desired for many days, began falling. It began gently and easily as though it had set in for a long "wet spell." ......The <Sir William Wallace>, put off considerable freight on Saturday, including dry goods, &c. ......The officers of the <City of Madison> left word at our city on Saturday that the <Kate May> had been destroyed by fire about 1 o'clock that morning, while taking on coal at Cannelton. The fire was occasioned by sparks from the steamer <Union> igniting the cotton on the bow of the boat. The flames spread with such rapidity that the boat and entire cargo were conumed, the money and papers in the safe alone, being saved. Fortunately, the boat being attached to the wharf-boat, the passengers were enabled to make their escape, without any lives being lost. The <Kate May> was from the Arkansis river, and had on board at the time of the fire, about 700 bales of cotton, which she was taking to Cincinnati. She was owned principally in that city. Newcomb's wharf-boat also took fire from the <Kate May>, and was consumed before the flames could be extinguished. What the entire loss is we did not ascertain. ====== Receipts by Railroad.
