Louisville, ' Teiiiieet, Louisville, - Kentucky, Memiihl, l'eraia, Cincinnati, . Prima lonna, littaburK, Clit.ijH.r, (imtiunaU. , r i ......<The Weather>, Saturday, was pleasant. There was considerable wind during the greater part of the day, which caused the dust to fly; but the sun shone warm and pleasant. . ......The <River> was falling slowly. Green river was also falling Saturday, but was still in fine boating condition. Our accounts from above show the river to be on the decline at all points. Western rivers are also reported to be falling. ......The clipper <Dunbar> is the regular mail packet to-day at 12 o'clock. The <Dunbar> is fleet, and her accommodations for the comfort of passengers are equal to those of any boat on the river. Capt. Fowler is an accommodating commander, and Gus. Dusouchet, in the office, is without a rival in that position. ......The Steamer <Grey Eagle> will leave for Louisville this morning. She offers the only reliable chance that will present itself to go to that city to-day. ......The <Greenville> arrived Friday night. Mr. Travis will accept our acknowledgements for a copy of his manifest. She brought out 13 passengers. Owing to some repairs that had to be made on her furnace, the <Greenville> did not leave on Saturday. She will depart this morning at 10 o'clock. Passengers will find the <Greenville> a pleasant boat, and her officers gentlemen in every sense of the word. Freight shipped on the <Greenville> is always delivered at its place of destination in apple-pie order. ......The <Caroline> arrived Saturday, Her clerk—we don't know which one—was too busy to either favor us with a manifest or permit us to copy it from his books. We congratulate the owners of the boat on having so active and energetic a young mau in the office. She brought out over 3,000 sks corn for I. A. Crane & Co. This we gathered from other sources. ......The <Lue Eaves> is the regular Green River packet to-day. Capt. McDonald and Zach. Taylor will do the agreeable to all who take passage with them. ......Messrs. Crane & Co. inform us that they had received reliable intelligence from their stolen hams. It seems the rogues appropriated a skiff belonging to a young gentleman of our city, loaded it with the meat, and started down stream. The presumption is that they were overtaken by daylight, and fearing they would be discovered by passing boats, they run their skiff ashore and abandoned it. When found it was afloat, about ten miles below town, and contained 55 hams, probably all that were taken out of the cask. ......The New Orleans <Delta> says the steamer <Eclipse> since she come out has paid nearly $100,000 to the insurance offices. It will take, says the same paper, at least $20,000 to repair her, and it hopes for the sake of decency that the underwriters will accept the proposition of Capt. Spotts, pay him $15,000 and permit him to build a new boat and place the machinery of the <Eclipse> in her. ......The <Persia>, on Saturday, had on a large quantity of cotton, which she was taking from Memphis to Cincinnati. It is a matter of astonishment that our business men do not take more interest in this cotton business that is constantly going right by their doors. They ought to lose no time in interesting themselves in an Evausville and Memphis steamboat ine [sic], and competing with Cincinnati for this cotton business. It would pay the E. & C. R. R., to buy one of the Louisville and Memphis steamers, and put her in from here to Memphis, if no one else will do it. The mail contract could easily be gotten; arrangements could be made to throw a great deal of cotton over their road by means of the boat; and a large passenger business might be built up. Now is the golden opportunity, when the Louisville men desire to sell their boats and mail contract on reasonable terms. Now is the tide which ought to be taken at its flood. If our business men do not awaken and bestir themselves, Paducah will be ahead of them, sure, in this matter. We copy the following from a Cincinnati paper, to show the extent of this Cotton business. The receipts of Cotton at Memphis from September 1 to March 1 were 344,006 bales, against 292,402 bales for the same time last year, showing an increase of 51,604 bales. The shipments during the same time were 301,847 bales, of which 66,856 bales were shipped to the Ohio River. The increase in shipments from Memphis to the Ohio River this year is nearly one-half.— The stock on hand at Memphis, March 1, was 43,343. ......The <Prima Donna> and the <Clipper> passed up Saturday on a race. The <Prima Donna> left our city first. ......The <Persi> was at the landing after dinner Saturday, receiving freight for the up-river country. She was labled "for Cincinnati and Pittsburg.'' ......"Drowned from off the steamer <Freestone>, in the Wabash River, on the evening of the 1st of March, Henry C., son of John and Sallie Dobyns, of Bracken county, Ken tucky." ......Two new steamers, the <Diadem> and <Sunnyside>, made trial trips at Pittsburg on Monday last. They were to load immediately for St. Louis. ......The new steamer <B. J. Adams> was launched from the ship yard of Mr. Wm Jones at New Albany, on Saturday.......The owners of the steamer <Cuba> have recovered damages in $11,000 of the owners of the <Nat. Holmes>, for sinking the former. ......The Louisville <Courier> says it was reported that Capt C. G. Pearce intends taking charge of the <Kentucky>. Capt. Pearce came down on that steamer Saturday, and stopped off at this point. Receipts by River. Per Si'KAMKit Gkkenvjlle. Slaughter Si Duukerson 18 lilids loljarco; I. A.
