......The <Weather> yesterday was in chilling contrast with that of the day previous. It was cloudy, and a cold wind blew with great force during most of the day. We presume there must have been a storm of some kind, not a great distance off. There was a demand for overcoats and shawls. ......The River continues to decline. Our telegraphic dispatches show the state of the streams at different points. ......<Freights> are abundant. We should judge there are at least 4,000 tons of freight awaiting shipment at the present time. Our commission men are becoming perplexed, and are praying for the arrival of two or three boats. The latest reports show that freights have accumulated at other points on the river in like manner, and that the St. Louis and New Orleans packets are offered more than they can carry at Cairo. ......The <Lue Eaves> arrived Wednesday night with a good cargo. She secured a good return trip and left last night. On Monday next the <Eaves> changes her time of running. She will leave Evansville every Monday, Wednesday and Friday—making tri-weekly trips to South Carrolton, connecting at that point with the <Trader>. Capt. McDonald is an energetic, go-ahead fellow, and he has secured the services of a valuable assistant in the person of our friend, Zach. Taylor. ......The <John Tompkins> arrived yesterday morning, with a fine trip, which she will reship for New Orleans whenever—as the negro minstrel has it about kissing a pretty girl—she gets a right good opportunity. We are indebted to her affable clerk, Mr. Twoomey, for a copy of her manifest. ......The <J. H. Done> also arrived yesterday morning. She had an excellent trip, a statement of which we publish in another place. The <Done> encountered some rough weather during her voyage. While in Vermilion river a storm of wind blew her from her moorage among the trees on the opposite side, .and broke up some of the railings around the hurricane deck. Receipts by River. Indeed, when all of our fsrtile soil shall be put in a suitable state of cultivation, we may safely say that she will be inferior to none in the State. The county produced last year, in tobacco, at least 2,000,000 pounds, valued at $ 100,000 ; hay about 5,000 tons, valued at $80,000; corn 200,000 bushels, valued at $100,000; hogs valued at $75,000; horses valued at $50,000; mules valued at 25,000; cattle valued at $40,000 ; sheep valued at $5,000; wheat 100,000 bushels, valued at 9100,000; rye valued at $2,000 ; potatoes and onions valued nt $5,000. . Besides we hare within three miles of Rockport two coal mines that contain not les3 than 10,000,000 bushels of better coal than the Pittsburgh, valued nt 7 cents per bushel, $700,000; making a total valuation of productions $1,282,000. Who can say that we are not a rith jeople. Rockport Dem. Scolding never did anybody any -good.
