The Weather yesterday was disagree ably warm. The sun was as scorching as in August, and the atmosphere as oppressive as in the middle of the summer. There certainly must be a storm brewing, and we may expect it to burst upon us with but little warning. We are fearful that the present warm spell will cause the fruit trees to bud prematurely, and that a sudden rost will cut off entirely what fruit the severe winter just past left to us. Those who are full of expedients to protect fruit from the cold, will, we fear, have an opportunity of putting some of them in practice. The River continues to decline. Our telegraphic despatches show that it is falling at all points above. There is now a splendid boating stage of water, any amount of freight, and steamboats for some weeks to come, are likely to bare a prosperous time. Freights as we have been repeating for several day3 are accumulating. The landing is covered, the wharf boat is full, and yet the prospect for gettin g some of it shipped seems rather dull. There are as yet no change in prices, but it is likely there soon will be, as the demand for boats a greater than the supply. The quotations are unchanged. The Dunbar arrived yesterday mornning with a good trip,' and departed at her usual hour. The Dunbar is as regular as clock work The Union came down from Louisville in the afternoon with a fair trip. She left from Green river the same evening. The Lancaster No. 3 passed down, just touching at the wharf-boat. It was rumored that she would be tied up if she did not settle for the damage she did by running into the Freestone on a previous trip, but it is likely the rumor was incorrect The Masonic Gem, arrived about 4 o'clock with the hugest trip on record. We are indebted to her gentlemanly clerk and prince of good fellows, Mr. McDonald, for her manifest, published in another place. The Masonic Gem leaves to-day at 1 o'clock for Mt. Carmel. Capt. Pillsbcry and Clerk McDonald are ready to receive any quantity of freight they may be favored with, and hope to have the company of a number of passengers, The fowling Green arrived lust night with a good trip. We are indebted to her gentlemanly officers for a manifest, which we publish in another place. The Fanny Bullitt came down last evening. She landed above town and took on board a large lot of corn. She took on considerable freight here. The Melnotte took on a larjre lot of bacon for Parkersburg. The Baltic passed up light late in the afternoon. Capt Ford's new packet, the 11. J. Adams, will be ready to start South by the 10th of April. She is built for the Louisville and New Orleans trade. Accident on the Alma. The Atlanta, which got on the rocks opposite Fifth street Sunday morning, had taken 100 hhds sugar off the boat and removed them on to a, light er which she had along side, and bad a rope stretched to the snore endeavoring to pull off. The Alma, which arrived from below, in coming out of the canal, run against the rope, tearing away her jackstaff and knock ing a deck hand, who was standing on the bow of the boat, back against the fire, killing him instantly. Two other hands, in endeavoring to cut the rope, were badly hurt by the rope striking them. We could not learn the names of any of the parties. Lou. Courier. The Melnotte entertained our people some time last evening with, the stirring music of her Calliope. She had one of the finest trips of passengers we ever saw car ried on a stern-wheel boat. We have read the memoranda of the John Raine, as published in the Louisville Courier. It states that the liaine arrived at this place one hour and 20 minutes behind the Autocrat, that 6he made 58 landings, that the Autocrat forgot some of the landings, and carried freight by; that the Auto crat, did not report that she was racing, as they reported about the liaine; and winds up with the following poetical effusion : The Raine did not start out for racing, Bnt last boats she is always chasing ; And passengers and shippers please remember that The John Maine can always beat the Autocrat. In reply to this, we would say, in the first place, that the John Haine reported here, as she went down, that she intended beating the Autocrat ; secondly, she lett New Or leans inlj hours in advance of the Auto crat ; thirdly, the Autocrat pussed her the first night out ; fourthly, the Autocrat made a3 many husiuesa landings as the Katne fifthly, the Autocrat beat the Haine to this city about four hours; sixthly, the good taste manifested in the above doggerel is aoout on a par with the speed of the boat; seventhly, and lastly, tiie Raine is too slow a craft even when well supplied with pine Knots to run ty the Autocrat.
