Sooth America, Pitta. Lne Eaves, S. Carroltcn. Kate Sarchet, Wabash. K. F. Sasg, Cincinnati. W. 1. Mac lay, Cio. Prairie Rose, St. Louis. ......The weather yesterday was cool and cloudy. In the afternoon it began to rain, and a cold, disagreeable rain it was. Business was very dull. River rising. Freights plenty. ......The <E. H. Fairchild> and <Pacific> passed up yesterday at noon. The <Fairchild> was a little in advance. The <Pacific> put off some sugar and molasses. ......The <Lue Eaves> left with a moderate trip. ......We understand that Capt. Lancaster, of the <Maid of the Mist>, intends building a new boat this summer and placing in her the engines formerly in the <Lightfoot>. ......A lot of hoop-poles on the landing were prematurely launched yesterday, by the rise in the river. The <Scioto>, Capt. Ballard, is the regular Louisville packet this morning. She affords an excellent opportunity to go to the Falls City. ......The <Autocrat> will leave for New Orleans to-day. This new packet offers rare accomodations to those who may desire to go South. The living on board is luxurious, the sleeping facilities unrivaled, and the officers and employees the choicest of good fellows. The <Autocrat> will secure all the freight here that she will desire to take, and will have the satisfaction of going out of the Ohio with a second huge trip. ......The <Charley Bowen> leaves to-day at 12 o'clock. She is the favorite with our people, and deservedly so. Capt. Dexter has allied his interests to those of our city, and does all in his power to increase the business of the place. His orders, when left to his own control, are invariably brought here to be filled. Our merchants and business men, in turn, should extend a helping hand to him. ......The faithful and reliable <Greenville> departs for Bowling Green to-day. She is prepared to take all the freight and passengers with which she may be favored, and deliver them at their respective places of destination, in safety and with dispatch.— Her obliging clerk, Mr. Travis, is always found at his post, eager to please and anxious to accommodate. ......The <D. B. Campbell> came down last evening with a very light trip. She goes up the Wabash. We understand that she went up the Wabash after a load of corn. ......We regret to learn that Mr. Smith, the gentlemanly clerk of the <Campbell>, lies seriously ill at Bowling Green. ......We learn that the <New Falls City> has been at Algiers for some time, repairing the damages done by her accident near West Franklin, on her last trip out. It seems the injury was greater than supposed at the time of the mishap. ......The <Woodford> is the next steamer bound for New Orleans after the <Autocrat>. ......The New Albany <Ledger> says: We understand that Capt. J. B. Archer, late of the <Montgomery>, has been tendered the command of the <McLellan>, by Capt. Sherley, President of the Memphis Mail Line. The steamboat world might have been hunted over without finding a more worthy and popular officer. The same paper says the river is rising at that point; that the mud is very deep, and that freights, are increasing, and that the <Autocrat> will take what freight there was on the wharf-boat. ......All the machinery necessary to repair the <Baltic> has been cast,, and will be ready to put aboard as soon as the boat arrives. The <Baltic>, consequently, will be detained a very short time. The <New Uncle Sam> left New Orleans for Louisville on Thursday last. ......The Louisville <Courier> man is wonderfully exercised in reference to the action of our Board of Trade to secure the appointment of local Inspectors for this port. He devotes half a column, denouncing what he seems to consider as an audacious movement. Keep cool, friend. When you get your wharf boats established, at the mouth of Green and Wabash rivers, you will, doubtless, so use us up, that the appointment of Inspectors will be unnecessary. As the case now stands, however, it is quite likely that the Inspectors will be appointed. ......We have heard nothing lately in reference to widening the canal at the Falls. Has it been abandoned? We trust Congress will take some action in the matter. River and Weather by Telegraph. PITTSBURGH, Feb. 17, M.—River seven feet, six inches by the pier mark and stationary. Weather clear and cold. THE PJtST WJJVTEH JJVH SPRING so far, have len very wet ones, causing many of our rivers to overflow their banks, back ing np tho water in tire creeks and bayous, and flooding to a considerable txtent the bottom lands ; when the rivers recede, which may be expected soon, then the large surface of decaying vegetable matter exposed to the set rrhing rays of the summer sin,, produces the mult ria, which proves so.fatal ia its course, sweeping whole Slates, aud sparing neither age nor sex ic its conquering march. ' After a remlonce of more than twenty years. tn the middle aud Southern Stales, we think we have discovered a niediciue which, to a certain extent, is a preventative of tho attacks of bilious lever ague, Ac., and a such we recommend our Magnolia Whisky. We wish tho public to understand that we are not urging upon them tliu use of strong Liquors as a beverage. We are, and al ways have been, opposed to their being used in that way, but it people will usa them as sucb, let tliera have by all moans a pure article, that will keep them in health, and lengthen instead of shortening thus lives. We propose to sell always pure and unadulterated Llqnora for medicinal purpoacn, aud a little for the stomach's sake, if required, and will challenge an inspection by the beat chemists in thin or any other country, to find any impurity or adulteration iu the whisky branded by us, "Allis A Howe's Magnolia." It is warranted, as it is distilled from the corn, rye, ot wheat, with a slight addition of good cistern water. We have no doubt many persons have been ruined iu health, if not ac tually killed, py drinking bad whisky, the greater the reason that Allis A Howes' pure Magnolia should be in general use.
