STEAMBOAT REGISTER. ARRIVED. Monarch, New Orleans, Switzerland, Cincinnati, Atlantic, New Orleans, Charley Bowen, Cairo, Dunbar, Paducah, Stephen Decatur, N. O. Diamond, Pittsburg, Bowling Green, Louisville, Fanny Bullitt, New Orleans. DEPARTED. Monarch, Cincinnati, Kate Sarchett, Wabash, Switzerland, N .O, Atlantic, Louisville, Dunbar, Paducah, Stephen Decatur, Cin., Diamond, N.O., Bowling Green, B. G., Lue Eaves, Coraloo, Fanny Bullitt, Louisville. ————— ......The weather yesterday was pleasant, though somewhat chilly. Business was rather dull. We observed very little doing. The river continues to recede, but the change is very slight ......The freight on the landing has accumulated to some extent, but the rates are unchanged. We now quote, to New Orleans: Flour 35c per bbl.; Pork 50c per bbl.; Corn 25c per sack; Tobacco $4 per hhd; Apples 40c per bbl.; Hay $6 per ton; Horses and Cattle. $6 per head; Sheep 75c per head; Cooperage, 1/2 bbls., 12 1/2c; Pork bbls and tierces, 20c each; Whisky bbls 25c. ......The <Charley Bowen>, with Captain Dexter in command, leaves for Cairo to-day at noon. The <Bowen> is supplied, with all the necessaries and luxuries of life, has very pleasant state rooms, accommodating employees, in consequence, rendering a passage on her exceedingly agreeable. Passengers will find, it to their interest to secure berths on the <Bowen>. ......The splendid <Diana> will leave for New Orleans this afternoon. She is one of the finest boats on the river; and Capt. Sturgeon one of the most reliable of boatmen. She will take some 300 or 400 tons of freight from this point. The <Bowling Green> presented her old familiar face yesterday. She leaves to-day for Green river. Her accommodations are excellent both for freight and passengers. ......The <Charley Bowen> arrived early
yesterday morning with a light trip of freight and passengers. The <Queen of the West> arrived last night, keen for New Orleans freight. ......The <Dunbar> departed at noon with a light trip. She took on some flour from the lower mill and some groceries to fill orders. ......On the last trip of the <Dunbar,> while at Uniontown, the second Engineer, Mr. Haywood, was seriously hurt, while attempting to oil the pitman. The scalp was torn from his head and he was otherwise considerably hurt. He was brought to this city, and in consequence of having no bones broken, will probably soon recover. ......There are now about two hundred laborers engaged on the levee at Cairo. ......The <Scioto> came down last night, and returned to Louisville. ......Capt. CHARLES BASHAM, of Louis ville, died on the 8th. He had been engaged in the steamboat agency business for over a quarter or a century, and previously was both a clerk and commander on the river. He was well known to boatmen. ......We clip the following from the N. O. <Picayune> of the 7th inst: Yesterday was dark and dismal, without. a redeeming point. It rained all day, relieving the levee of that dust, that had become an intolerable nuisance. Business on the levee was dull. The departures and arrivals were not very numerous. Among the departures we notice that of the <Grand Duke>; she had a large trip of freight and passengers. ......The following rather absurd paragraph we find in the Cincinnati <Commercial> of yesterday. We incline to the belief that the Southern boatmen are getting sick and tired of Northern boats. They are finding out the fact that cheap built freesoil boats are a dear bargain in the end: A gentleman posted in boatbuilding matters informs us that parties in St. Louis are about contracting here for two fine packets for the St. Louis and Memphis trade. Two new packets will also be built here for the Arkansas trade, another for White River, and probably a low water packet for the Cincinnati and Memphis trade. Two of the new packets for the Memphis and New Orleans trade will also be built here.—<Lou. Courier>. What there is absurd that a person should go to Cincinnati to have a boat built, we are at a loss to discover. We presume there are several places on the Ohio River where steamboats can be built just as good and cheap as at Louisville. By the way, neighbor <Courier>, don't your attempt to excite the prejudices of Southern people against Northern built boats, appear contemptible, now you take a second thought on the subject? Receipt by Railroad. February 10, 1860. 10 sack corn meal, Loreuz Ziliae ; . 2 suks feathers, Wheeler A Riggs ; 4 bbl eggs, 1 box butter, Geortte Miller ; 20 hides, Casimir Schlamp ; 1 sek leathers, 1 sck socks, Samuel i-uiDicu & to, ; d bbls apples, Fred Reyner; 448 sacks corn, A E Surader; 32 bush ear corn, 113 scks shelltd corn,. The ingredients are: .Five , eupsf ul of milk,' four k spoonsful of saleratus dissolved in some cream,' and a . small portion of salt, i Mix inenougn Sour , to form a paste just stiff enough to roll out. The Hon. Joel Jones, formerly Judge of the District Court for the county of Philadelphia, and Mayor of that city in 1849, died in that city on the, 3d hist., in hia . lxty-fiflh year. He was a lawyer of great learning, a fine Greek and Hebrew scholar, and a man of great personal worth. : t&" Mr.. Hoffman, recently elected Ser-geantat-Aros of the House of Representatives, was a member of the House at the time Brooks made 'the brutal attack njion Senator : Sumner, and he roted to expel Brooks the only Southern man that did so. SDetail9 of the loss of the clipper ship Flora Temple, Captain Johnson, from Macao for Havana, show that the entire number (eight hundred and fifty) of coolies on board, proves the boats were na more than sufficient to save the crew. . tS? Not since 184 J, it is said, has husii ess been more thoroughly ' prostrated in .Philadelphia than at present. j
