RIVER ITEMS. ———
——><Regular Packets expecting notices of their running arrangements in the Journal, must advertise with us. All kinds of Steamboat Job Work done at short notice, in good style, and at reasonable rates. Extra copies
of the paper for sale at all times>. ======= STEAMBOAT REGISTER. ARRIVED. Kentucky, Memphis. D. B. Campbell, B. Green Dunbar, Paducah. Union, Louisville. Alma, Pittsburg. DEPARTED. Dunbar Paducah. Union, Bowling Green, Alma, New Orleans. Kentucky, Lonisville. .......Yesterday was a mild and beautiful day. It was a decided premoniter of spring. Blue birds have already made their appearance. Business on the landing was dull, so far as shipments were concerned. Freights are still accumulating. We have now on the landing a large amount of pork, flour, cooperage &c., whose destination is New Orleans. The river was rising a little yesterday morning. ......It will be seen by our advertising columns, that the steamer <Bowling Green> is once more to resume her old trade in Green river. She leaves our city on Saturday at 4 o'clock for Bowling Green and intermediate points. ......The steamer <Union>, from Bowling Green, arrived yesterday morning, discharged her cargo for this port, and then departed for Louisville. We are indebted to her gentlemanly Clerk, Mr. Edwards, for the following manifest of freight: 300 bbs. flour. Brown & Aikman; 250 tierces lard, 10 boxes tobacco, Slaughter & Dunkerson; 58 bbls. flour, 5 plows, I. A. Crane; 8 boxes fur skins. J. H. Maghee, & Co.: 4 packages sundries, Jewell & Newbury; 1 iron axle, Kratz & Heilman. ......The <Alma> came down yesterday, and put off some 2,600 kegs nails, a lot of iron, glassware, &c. She took on board 200 or 300 tons of freight for New Orleans. ......The <L. D. Campbell>, one of the Green River clippers, put out last evening with some freight for the country bordering on that stream. ......The <Diana> and <Magnolia> were due here last night from New Orleans. The <Magnolia> will doubtless excite the ire of the Louisville papers again. ......The <Grey Eagle> is the regular Henderson and Louisville packet this evening. She is one of the finest boats on the river and eminently worthy of patronage. ......The <Atlantic> was at Memphis yesterday morning. ......The Cincinnati <Gazette> and Louisville <Courier> both report business dull and freight scarce in their respective cities. ......The SL Louis <Republican> of yesterday morning says: The river is about stationary. We learn from a gentleman who has recently arrived from Hannibal, that the river just below that port is formly closed with ice, which is so thick as to allow people to cross the river on it. This is of some extent, and it is thought that it will require considerable warm weather to thaw it out. Were it not for this, boats could reach Hannibal without much difficulty. As it is, there is not much chance for any boats reaching that point for some little time. Above Hannibal, too. there is another formidable ice barrier. ......The <Antelope> is undergoing a change at Louisville. The upper works are being cut away for the purpose of converting her into a tow boat. ......It will be seen from our Vincennes letter that our old friend, the <Castle Garden>, is again in limbo. ......The Cairo correspondent of the Louisville <Courier> says that the boats aground in the Mississippi at Goose island are in much trouble. The Atalanta and Altamont are nearly dry, and a hand on the former was killed and another seriously wounded by the breaking of a spar. Vincennes Correspondence. CINCENNES, Feb. 8th, 12 M. JOURNAL REPORTER:—Wabash river rising slowly. No arrivals. The U. S. Marshal has tied np the <Castle Garden> at the Locks. <Mary Cook> still lying here. W. H. W. ======= . Receipts) by ttsUtromil. To the Public. rgMIMi JPJIST WMJYTMSB JUVIt SPRING JL so far, have been very wot ones, causing many of our rivers to overflow their banks, back iug up the water In the creeks and bayous, and flooding to a considerable extent the bottom lands ; when the rivers recede, which may be expected soon, then the large surface of decaying vegetable matter eXioat-d to tlte scorching rays of the mnniier sun, produces the malaria, which proves so fatal in its course, sweeping whole States, aud sparing neither ago nor sex iu its conquering march. . . i . . Af ter a residence of more than twenty years in the middle and Southern States, we think we have discovered a medicine which, to a -jrtalu extent, is a preventative of the attacks of bilious tever ague, Ac, and as such we recommend our Magnolia Whisky. We wish the public to understand that we are not urging upon tueni the use of strong Liquors aa a coverage. We are, and ul ways have been, opposed to their being used in that way, but if people will use them as such, let tbem have by all means a pure article, that will keep them in health, and luogthen instead of shortening their lives. We proose to sell always pure and unadulterated Liquors for medicinal pnrH.-3; and a little for the stomach's sake, if required, and will challenge an inspection by the best chemists in this or any other country, to find any impurity or adulteration in the whisky branded by us, "A His A Howe's Magnolia."
