RIVER ITJBOVrS. ARRIVED. Great Western, N O Diamond, do Charley Bo wen, Cairo Sciota, do JnoBaino, do Lebanon, Cin Kentucky, Lou nEfABTED. Great Western, Oia Jno B&ine, Lon Diamond, Cin - Lebanon, Nash Kentucky, Memphis . Sciota, Lon Lue Eaves, Green liiver. The steamer Diamond, - which was reported sank and a.Jotal loss at Island 70, a short distance below Memphis, few days ago, was raised again a few hours after the accident, aud with bat little damage to either boat or cargo. The report that she had gon down in 40 feet water is, therefore, untrue. , While passing Cairo, on her waj to Cincinnati, on Friday last, one of her engineers was caught in the machinery, and so badly crushed that he died soon after the . accident. "The Charley Bowen arrired yesterday at noon " in good order aud well conditioned." We are informed by Capt. Dexter that the Bowen will not leave until Saturday the delay in her departure being on account of a scarcity of business. " Capt. A. Consoll, of the Castle Gar- : den, left St. Louis yesterday for the Wabash, and the Republican nays he ia going to run his boat as a Tegnlar . pactet between this place anil Terre Haute. . The Silver Star will be at the wharf to-day. She will be prepared to accommodate all the passengers and freight she can get.. Messrs. Taylor and Duaouchet are the gentlemanly clerks. The John Raine arrived yesterday morning. She 'made the run from Hender son to this place in fifty minutes. . She has oar thanks for late New Orleans papers. ' The Wabash is still frozen over from Yincennes to Lafayette. The Done and the Freestone are ready to leave for that stream, and are at present waiting for the river to open. The Great Western passed up yes terday morning, on one wheel, having broken a shaft. She was heavily laden. The little tow-boat Home was assisting her, The B. P. Cheney is again ii the Cairo vnd Columbos trade, making regular con nections with the cars at both ends of the route. " ' The Maria Demcng, which left here a few days ago, had about 800 tons of freight when she arrived at Cairo, which she took on here and at some of the lower points. Mr. John Scott, mail agent on the Kentucky, will accept our thanks for late - Louisville and .New Albany papers. The D. B. Campbell, in charge of Capt, Lamm, will probably arrive from Bowling Green to-day. The Kentucky passed down yester day, taking on considerable freight at our wnan. The Scioto, from Louisville, passed down to Henderson yesterday. She has our thanks for papers of a late date. The Dtinbzr, we understand, is being re-painted at Paducah. The Markets. After a residence of more than twenty years in the middle and Southern Stales, we think we have discovered a medicine which, to a certain extent, is a preventative of the attacks of bilious lover, airue, e , and as such we recommend our JUanolit. We propose to sell always pure aud unadulterated Liquors for medicinal purponen, and a little 1 1 the stomach's sake, if re Hired, and will challonge an inspection by the best chemists in this or any other country, to find any impurity or adulteration in the whisky branded by us, "Allis A Howe's Magnolia." It is warranted, as it is distilled from the corn, rye, or wheat, with a slight addition of good cistern water. We have no doubt many persons have been ruined in health, if not actually killed, yy drinking bad whisky, the greater the reason that Allis A Howes' pure Magnolia should be in general use. AMERICAN Wholesale Clothing House. rmj ji- x tin .w tj , rti . wuoajK JL Clothing trade of the West was comparatively of small amount, aud was confined almost exclusively to a retail business iu the larger towns and cities alouo. Now this line of Goods has become au almoxt mdi-jieiisahle part of tbe stork of every general Dry Coodd store from the crowded city to tbe cross-roa.1 stand. Like all changes in trade, however, this one has not been produced except for the bent of reasons. Among these are ths great saving of material by cutting a large quantity of garmentH together the superior work and speed of sewing machines in manufacturing the great saviug of time in waiting for your "turn" at the Tailor's the uncertainty of even then getting a satisfactory 'fit," and above all the saving of at le , on-tathe cost of . the garmeut in the price. ij0r a number of years this has ouly been a part of our general Dry Goods business, but we Lave made arrangemeuts to devote our whole house exclusively to it alone with such lines of Notions and Furnishing Goodx aa will be necessary and desirable in that trade.
