KGAD1.VG MATTER ON EVERY PAGE. Felt amd Scissors. Almost two entire page3 of the New York Herald are devoted to the publication of the addresses delivered by Dr. Cheever and Wendell Phillips at the Brown sympathy meeting in New York city on the 15th inst. How the South can permit the circulation of a paper containing such incendiary sentiments within its borders is a mystery to us. The Hlinoi3 Central Railroad Company bare issued a circular in which it is estimated that the corn crop of that State will amount to 100,000,000 bushels, of which about 15,000,000 will be exported. The roads expects a large increase in its business in the transportation of this corn. Sensible Suggestions The Southkhn Press and Incendiary Matter. The Savannah Republican shows the inconsistency manifested by the course of Southern journals in decrying the incendiury documents of the Northern press, when they publish extracts from these very articles to be used in election campaigns. It instances the " irrepressible conflict" speech of Senator Seward, which no later than the last summer, was copied in extenso and scattered broadcast over the country as an electioneering document. The Republican argues tiiat if the only fear to be entertained by the circulation of these incendiary publications is the probable ell'ect they might have on the minds of the slaves, it mattered very little whether they learned to be dis satisfied from our own newspapers or those of another State. If the intelligence is conveyed, and they get the idea, the harm to them is just as great as though received through the columns of the Tribune. A meeting of the young Democrats of Terre Haute is called this evening for the purpose of organizing a Young Men's Democratic Club. A little girl, in Chicago, one evening, saw a man coming towards lier, rolling a barrel. She at once turned round and commenced running and screaming. She finally fell, and was picked up in n state of almost insensibility. She was carried into a store, and after a little cfTort, she was brought to her senses. She said her mother bad told her that Jumpertz would come with n hnrrel and carry her oir if she staid out evenings, and she thought the man with the barrel was Jumpertz. Sho was escorted borne in safety, probably to dream of Jumpertz and his barrel. An encampment of the Sons of Malta is about to be established in New Albany. It i3 the highest branch of the Order. What Mr. Hickman learned in Congress: " I have, Mr. Clerk, been a member of the House of Representatives long enough to learn many things which I never could have learned at home, and I think it has perfected my education upon this point; I have learned that a man may support every measure of a Democratic Administration, and yet if he votes against asingle interest ot'slavery, he is ipse facto, no Democrat ; but if he votes againstevcry measure of the Administration and will sustain the interests of slavery, he is ipse, facto, a good Democrat. I put that a3 God's naked truth before this House, and before the country, and I intend to stand upon it as a solemn conviction." A Great Corn State. The Assessors in Kentucky, and the Secretary of the Board of Agriculture, report a corn crop of three hundred and eighty millions of lushes Comparing the nmount of corn raised with the number of aerc3 tinder cultivation, and it seems the farmery Lave areraged about three hundred bushels to the acre. This, we take it, is huge. The old banking firm of Watson k Shannon, in Terre Haute, has been dissolved by the retirement of Mr. Watson. Mr. Shannon will continue the business. This change will have no e (feet on the "Wat son & Shannon's checks," which form a, con siderable portion of the circulating medium of Terre Haute. No new checks foe the present, will be issued-. The Providence Journal says it is to be hoped thai Ihose members of Congress who want to leave, if a Republican Speaker is elected, will stay long enough to draw the ;1..,.. II...: e ..j...iei. nanus i-wiiie so.iar to snow lliei patriotism, they should not be asked to sac rilice anything more than their seats am; their sense in behalf of a country which treats them so badly. Missino, Pkusons. There is quite a panic in Detroit, owing to the mysterious disap pearance of several persons who either were residents of that city or had coine there on business. It is feared that the place is in fested with n band of robbers and mur derers. A Yankee grog-seller of Davenport, Iowa, was recently waited upon by the la dies of that city, who came to inform him that be must "dry tip" his business. He received them courteously, and watching the opportunity (during the pendency of negotiations) caught two of the best lookvug ones about the net k and kissed them This was a volley they were illy prepared to withstand, and consequently were put hors da combat, and the Yankee mid his " retl eye" were left unharmed. Dedication. Two Catholic churches the St. trancis, of Sales, on Walnut Hills, and the St. Francis, at the corner of Vine ami Liberty streets, Cincinnati wore dcdl cated oh Sunday li hy Archbishop Pur cell. Mr. Alfred. Caldwell, the Virginia State oenator Irora the- V heeling District, who it will Wremerhliered, avowed strong Republican doctrines in a sjieech at his home bust summer, is placed in Coventry at Richmond. He is treated with extreme coolness by his brother Senators and the members of the other House. At the hotel at night, when all seem to te engaged in conversation, he sits alone by the store in the rotunda, as little recoguized as though he were an entire stranger to all present, lie will probably stand the pressure, ard be improved by it. There are stone bridges in China three J and four miles in length, and an arch of the enormous space of 000 b et.

The insanity and madnes3 by which S'Jlue of the ultra extremists of th Sonth aro actuated is almost incredible. The Richmond Examiner lately contained a long communication which was written, the editor said, by one of the first men in the State, urging npon the people of the Sonth an immediate withdrawal from the Union, and the placing of the slaveholding States under the Emperor of France I The writer was in favor of sending embassadors to France, offering Louis Napoleon free trade with th6 South if ho would send a portion of bis army and navy to protect them from the North. A respectable farmer named John York, a resident of Bracken county, Ky, becoming possessed of the notion that his wife bad proved false to ber marriage vow, the other day took bis gun, and telling his family that he would spend the day hunting, ordered his little boy to meet him at acertain place in the woods in a few hours, and carry home his game and gun, as be wished to proceed thence to see a neighbor. At the appointed time, the boy repaired to the spot, where to his horror, he found hi3 father stiff and cold in death. He had placed the muzzle of the gun near hi3 heart, and discharged its contents in his body. Death must have ensued immediately, as his frame was shockingly mutilated. Tork packing has commenced iu earnest in Olney, 111. Great loads of slaughtered hoS are arriving daily from different parts of the country. The indications are that there will be a much larger business done in packing than wa3 anticipated. , Tub Lectubk. A telegraphic disjiatch was received from Prof. Yoi m an's, yesterday, announcing that ho had been detained on account of sickness, and could not arrive in our city to. deliver his lecture until Saturday evening. This, we doubt, not, will sttit everybody. Although the com mittee bad arranged so that the lecture was to come off before the Fair, still there would have been many persons who desired to attend both, but could not bare done so under that arrangement. On Saturday night the Professor will bo greeted with an audience worthy of our growing city. Frozen to Death Yesterday morning a man was found in a street in Lamasco, near Fulton avenue, in a dying condition. A young German, who first discovered him, picked him up, and placing him in a stable, covered him up with hay. A wagon v.iS afterwards procured, and the unfortunate man conveyed to the jail. Every effort was made to restore him to consciousness, bat without success. He died a short time afwtto mjYcu iiuu me uuueu. i no cor oner's jury, after an examination of the case, ascertained that the deceased's name was John J. Mur?.; that he was about forty years of age. and that his death was occasioned by intemperance and exposure. They go one- by one the victims of an uncontrollable appetite. They put that to their vaouths which steals away their brains, and they are compelled to pay the penalty. Committed. Yesterday morning McCakty, who stabbed McGkkqoby, day before yesterday, had a preliminary hearing before Justice Stinsou. After a full understanding of the evidence, the Justice bound him over to the next term of the Court in thai sum of 52,000. McCautv didn't appear to have any friend that was willing to risk that much money on him, as to his bail, and consequently be was returned to jail. d'The Hon. Lin.n Boyd, of Kentucky, died at his residence, near Paducah, ou Saturday evening last. The Paducah Herald comes to us dressed in niouruing iu consequence of this sorrowful event.
