TUESDAY MORNING....................OCTOBER 4 ======= ARRIVED. Arizonia, Pittsburg Jno Gault, Louisville S P Hibberd, Louisville W V Gillum, do E H Fairchild, do McLellan, Memphis Alida, Cannelton Greenville, B Green Mariner, St Louis Jno Raine, Louisville J A Fisher, Paducah Kate French, Louisville Neptune, Pittsburg Charm, do. ——— DEPARTED. Lue Eaves, Green R Jno Gault, Nashville Arizonia, St Louis W V Gillum, Green Riv S P Hibberd., Memphis McLellan, Louisville Alida, Cannelton Greenville, B Green Mariner, St Louis Jno Raine, N Orleans J A Fisher, Paducah Kate French, Louisville Neptune, St Louis Charm, White R ——— The weather, yesterday, was rery pleasant, and business on the levee was rather brisk. The river has fallen two and a half feet since Saturday night, and is still receding slowly, with considerable freight to ship. We quote the following as the current rates: To New Orleans.—Apples, 40c @ bbl; Tobacco, $5 @hhd; Flour, 50c @ bbl; pound freights, 30c @ 100 lbs; Eggs and Whisky, 65c @ bbl. To St Louis —Pound Freights, 20c @ 100 lbs. To Cincinnati— Pound freights (heavy), 15c @100 lbs; shipstuff and wheat, @ sack, 15c. The steamer <Alida>, during the Fair week, will make daily trips to Canneltou. Leaving there at an early hour in the morning, and taking visitors to the Fair from the intermediate points, and going up at night.— By this arrangement, people from all the towns on the river between the two points can visit the Fair without losing more than a day. The "Maid of the Mist," the regular Evansville and Henderson packet, is running daily between the two places. During the Fair she will go down in the evening and come up in the morning, to bring visitors to the Fair, and allow them to return at night. The <Gen. D. M. White> took her departure yesterday for Wabash. The <Scioto> will be down this evening from Louisville and after a flying trip to Henderson return on her trip. The <Greenville> with a big trip of freight left yesterday evening for Green river. The <John A. Fisher> left yesterday with a fair trip of freight and passengers. The <Gillum> came down from Louisville yesterday morning, and proceeded immediately for Green river. A neat little side-wheel steamer called the <Charm>, lately purchased at Louisville for the mail trade in White river, was at our wharf yesterday morning. Capt. Bob Ferguson, a well known Cumberland river boatman, has laid out a town in Illinois, just above Pull Tight, and opposite Cumberland Island. It looks well on paper, and glories in the name of "Island City." Its future prosperity is based upon the downfall of Southland, Ky. Capt. Latimer, of the Columbus packet <W. A. Eaves>, has contracted at Cincinnati for a new boat to run in connection with the M. and C. Railroad, in place of the <Eaves>. She will be a large and fast boat, specially adapted to the trade. The following are the dimensions of the new steamer <Parallel>, which was launched from the ways at Cincinnati on Thursday last: 220 feet on deck, 33 feet floor, 35 feet beam, and 6 feet depth of hold. The machinery consists of three five feet boilers, 46 feet in diameter [sic], 26 feet long: the cylinders being 21 feet in diameter, 8 feet stroke, and works a couple of beautiful water wheels. The mail packet <Irene>, sunk in Arkansas river, on the 24th ult., is a total loss. She struck a root or stump, three a half feet under water, while the passengers were at breakfast, and went down inside of one minute, in sixteen feet water. Her machinery cannot be recovered without the aid of a wrecking boat. She was bound down, and had on board two hundred and twentyseven bales of cotton, thirty-two of which were saved by the <Convoy> at last accounts. The <Fanny Bullitt> has been laid up at Louisville to undergo some repairs. She leaves there next Thursday. ———<>——— Tug Fair. The officers of the District Fair were very busy yesterday attending to entries. The applications were more numerous than was expected, and the articles entered, we are told, were very superior of their kiud. The Directors have notice of a large quantity of articles to arrive this morning for entry. To-day the show will be fairly inaugurati .1. To-morrow and Thursday will be interesting days, and those coming from a distance, who wish to see the midnight parade of the Sons of Malta, and listen to the eloquent oratiou of Mr. Thompson, and witness the feats of female equestrianism, must be here to-morrow. An Americam Rival to thb Gbbat Eastbh.n. Saunders' A' ewt Letter, ot Dublin, says that the 6bip nearest in size to tbe Great Eatiern, arrived in Englaud from America about thirty years ago. She was called tbe Baron 0 Renfrew, was 600 feet long, and was composed of large logs of timber clamped together in tbe roughest manner It was predicted that she would never steer never would cross tbe Atlantic ; but she did, and immediately upon her arrival was broken up. Indeed, she was nothing more than imported timber, hav ing been patched together to avoid the ti oi lier duty, which waa then exceedingly heavy. She fulfilled her mission in evenway, but the government was down upon the new dodge, and prevented any repeti tion of the experiment. 'There was a very severe suow storm in the W hite Mountain district, last Wed nesday, and snow is a foot deep in some place above the ledge, on tbe path from tbe tilen. The old residents say that never since 1816 and 17 has there been weather of equal eerity at so early a period ol tbe season. Tbe snow of last winter is now covered by uew drills, which will doubtless remain uuuielted till next summer. A big wolf bunt is Hppoiubad to come on in Jasper county, Indiamt, in a few days. Quite a number of tbrse animals iutve lately been seen in a portion of tbe couuty, aud citizens have began to fear for their sheep pens. Anthony Burns, of fugitive slave notoriety, having been called to the pastorate ol a Colored Baptist Church at Indianapolis, 1" threatened with the penalties of the 41 Black Law, " of Indiana, if" he accepts the call.
