St. L'sMaseaagsr, Cincinnati John Bail. Loulartlle Mfcaseaa. Memphis CnJoa, Oreeu River Jadg McClur., Mia Ki Ths wsaiher, on Saturday, was very pleasant, the sun ahiusng beautifully almost all dsy, making quite a contrast with the preceding gloomy weather. Business on the levee was extremely brisk, although twghta ontinned scarce and low. Capt, . Cogens Bowers will shortly assume the clerkship of the Memphis and Arkansas rirer packet Irene. The little Charm was sold st Louisville ou Thursday, to parties from White river, for $3,000, which she cost her owners. She was taken to Jeffersonvills to undergo some repairs. Four-fifths of the Courier the interest of the late Captain Roberts will be sold at Administrator's sale at Wheeling, on Thursday next. The Kate Sarcket abandoned her trp in Wabash, and returned to Mt. Vernon where she discharged her crew. The reason was the insufficient quantity of water. The wreck of the R. R. Adanu , sunk in Red river, has been abandoned, the State employees finding it impossible to remove her, the water being too low to get their boat to the wreck. We notice that an ugly looking "sawyer" has lodged in the channel of the river, just above town, and may do some damage, as it is a late deposit. The Gen. D. Jf. White puts out for Wabash to-day. Shippers should not neglect this opportunity. The New Albany papers are mistaken about the Charley Bowen going into the t'ls between Cairo and Cape Girardeau. Tis true, Capt. Dexter has bad some very favorable offers made in that direction, but we are conSdent he will not leave the business she has built up between here and Cairo so long as she meets with that support she so richly deserves. The Charley is at present on the Ways, at Mouud City. Clothwg. Messrs. Fkbnch k Co. are making rapid sales of their new aud esteu?ive stock of clothing. They are receiving new supplies from the largest Katern manufacturers, and d urinir the Fair week will be prepared for a very extensile demand tor new out-fits. They sell at tbc lowest price" for which goods can be obtained in the city. These houses that adverti.-e are lway. t Inmost liberal in trade. TssBSS couteut with a petty traffic, must uiitke large prohtd ,iinl dt a gotnl dual of chaderiuK to live by it. i A opKirtunity will be offered on the .'7th of tins month, to purchase a nice lot fr a suburban resilience. Mr. Rihraowia ha; cut up his farm of 100 acres, into five acre lots, and proposes selling tbera off at auction. The property has bean placed in the hands of .Messrs. McDonald it Sabi.n, who will take pleasure in i .owing it to all who may desire to purchase. Read the advertisement in another column. &" Mr. G. W. Hawes has laid upon our table a copy of the Kentucky State Uazeitetr and Business Directory. It is quite convenient as a book of reference, and may be worth tne phre to any one looking after localities, hiiine-, ani business men in Kentucky. There is not in this wide world a more valuable institution than a good tailor, hi a well filled dry goods store, where you can procure auy article for gentlemen's or youth's clothing, that you may require, and bave them cut out or made to order on short notice, and at very low prices. Call at HroHta' if you want the above accommodation, and our word for it you will oroe away pleased. A OT it kit Aver ION FOR the Ladiks. We will sell on Tuesday morning, October 4th. at 10 o'clock, at our auction rooms, a lot of dry tfood.-. reninanU, consisting ot wool blanket, domestic delaines, and ten piares of those Irish linens. Also, a lot of china anti glass ware, and other remnants of a store closing out. Ladies, all come and buy, as there is one chinA tea set. ScBoasFkLO. It will be observed by an advertisement, that Messrs. Scbokmkikld k Qbj on Wa'er street bave made a change in their stock, and deal now, principally, in cothing and gentlemen's furnjshing goods. Their stock is entirely new, and of the latest fashions. Those who wish fine goods, at low prices, we recommend them to Messrs S hoknkkld k Co., where small profits and quick sales, and fair dealing is the maxim adhered to. tBjj.Tbe high price of negroes is drawing them rapidly away from Virginia and North Carolina, and the agriculture of these States is feeling the loss. If the abolitionists would be patient, the natural and commercial causes now operating, will reduce ths area of slavery tatter than these sham philanthropists could, if they had full possession of the government and the power to modify the constitution to suit their own wishes. 8a Tbe ship Haltos of Kennebrink, lie. loaded with cotton at New Orleans, fur Liverpool, look fire last week, snd was burned in spite of tbe exertions of tbe firemen, who fought the liamea and kept them under for an hour. When her destruction was found to lie inevitable, she was towed into the river laelow the city, where she was consumed and sunk. Tbe loss is estimated at ;175.000. Tbe ship was insured st ths east And tbe cargo in England. Wantkd. A couple of good brick layers can find employment for some lime by t ailing on Bellamy k Banroan, at Lew . j fGarrison and bis friends bave raised the i cry of "down with the statue of Webster! " ', They are also circulating a petition, requesting the Legislature to remove it from the Sate House grounds, because the great states
man was so unfortunate as to diner ironi the sentiments of that wise and temperste paper, the Liberator. Why don t they demand tnat Webster's remains shall be exhumed and thrown to the winds. gypF" Mr. Wm. J.
