Mr. K. Ligbtenliehi, near ihc High School fTonse, ha a shop when- he is turning out Blacksmith a bellow of all sizes, and of a quality and finish, tbat are not surpassed by any manufacturer in the country. They have the preference over the articles made at Louisville, ami are sold at prices that secure them ready sale. We are adding one new branch of mechanical labor after another to our manufactories, till in a short time the whole circle of our mechanical trades will be complete, and we shall be prepared to supply from our own shops all the wants of the country around ML Stkam Esoimk. At a special meeting of the Council, yesterday afternoon, Mr. Latta, manufacturer of steam fire engines, in CiuVinnati, proposed to bring one of his engines to our city, and exhibit its suitableness for extinguishing fires. The Council instructed him to bring the engine, during tbe District Fair, and agreed to iay him $75, and also to pay the freight from Cincinnati to this point aud back, in case thay did not keep the machine. If they conclude to buy it, alter a fair test of its merits, there will la? nothing to pay for bringing it here except j the freight. Mr. UOt'l price for the engine that ha thinks would suit our city is 6,500. TUe j Weight of the engine is about 7,5Uu pounds It will throw a lg inch stream from '.'.' to 1 ii feet, horizontal, and will force a stream of water through 1,000 feet of ho.--, MmI over the nads of the highest building m the place. The exhibition of tlx- euiuc illbeAQadditioiialattrscti.ii to our Knir, and may induce many in attend a bo would otherwise stay swat . The Old lo. liana Mill. The property of James Hewett, under the superintendence of George Wolflin, is unlerfoing a complete renovation. Tbe old uiacbiuery of tue patlct us of 30 years ago, is being replaced with new, of the best modern construction. It is to have four run of stoue with eight bolters and dusters, and a new and powerful steam eugine. Thv change will make it one of the best mills in the city, and a large customer for tbe wheat of the farmers ot the Pocket. Under the careful and shrewd management of its superintendent, it will be a renuim rativa ' establishment. The hull for the mat llitiery Of the Southern Belle, is nearly completed at Paducah, and is expected here . in two or three weeks, to receive her mat hinery and cabin. We are informed tbat the hull is one of tbe finest models ever turned oflT the stocks at Paducah. Her carrying capacity, we arc told, will lie about looo tons. The hull for the Haven's machinery, built at Mound City, will be here in a few days to receive her eniues aud upper works. The cabins for both boats are being prepared by Mr. Thompson, at his shop near ii' n - r . . c . the 'tMU mue "a ouae, uu .r ow. He has sections of the beautiful railing for the promenade and upper decks, put up, w hu h exhibit specimen of scroll sawing of the most beautiful patterns. The finish of Uses floats will do credit to the city.
