MONDAY MORNING. SKPTKMBKK Local and Miscellaneous. Wanted. A good boy, to learn the print iog business. Apply at this office Upassds 'On Friday night we had for a short time A very brilliant display of the Anmra Borealis in the Northern heavens. It was not as glorious or desirable an exhibition as our Northern friends describe, but it was as good as we erer hare in thee lower regions, under the edge of the slare cloud, where, according to the abolitionists' geography, We hare our habitations. Mr. J. Perry Elliott, after having spent the summer pleasantly with his friends in Wisconsin, has retnrned and taken charge of bis Gallery, No. 45 Main street, where his friends and all who appreciate first-rate pictures will be glad to call upon him. We are indebted to Chas. S. Wells, Esq., far N. Y. papers one day in advance of Post Master Holt's slow mails. Last Year's Cottox Rkciu't. The first of September is the date for making up the annual statements of the receipts and export of cotton. At New Orleans, the total receipts for the year ending the 1st inst. were 1,672,814 bales. The re :pts ahead of last year are 100,405 bales. Total exports 1,777,000. Stock on band 36,022 bales. At Mobile, the total receipts for the year were 704,400 against 522 845 bales last year. Increase, 181,) 5 5. In the year 1818 the total receipts at Mobile were only 1,800 bales, At Memphis, the receipts for the last year were 325,000 bales against 243,000 last year. Increase, 82,000 bales. The Aurora Borealis seems to have been unusually beautiful in Long Island 2ound, as seen from the harbors of FairlieMBridgejort, and Stratford. In the !iarli.r of the last town the night was bright that it was found almost InrpJmndr to Ml for sturgeon, a sport which is p-in rIU mort successful on a dark night, when a bright light is carried in the bow of tin- bout, and the doomed fish is caught mipping. On Monday morning host, beta fen three and four o'clock, the light whs so great as to alluw the tisliermeu to distinguish the men ou board vessels at three miles and a half distance, it was easy to read by this Northern light, and certainly never waa a grander sight seen than this fiery spectacle of the Heavens all through Connecticut. The IT. S. Marshal of Arkansas re cently arrested it half-breed Indian iu the Cherokee territory for the murder of a white man in Arkansas While the Marshal with Lis assistants were conveying the prisoner o V rt Smith for trial, a party ot Cherokee I it. bans attacked the Marshal's party and rescu el the murderer. The act has caused snje i xi-itcinent about Fort Smith, and it is made the occasion to demand a change in the organisation of the Indian territory and a change of the intercourse laws. The Alton Vuurier publishes an ac count of the mysterious disappearance of four farmers from Portasre des Sioux, who had sold their wheat in Alton and received their money for it. They were last seen on Tuesday evening of last week, since which no trace of them has lieen found. Foul day is suspected. Efforts are Wing made to clear up the mystery. The C raw fordsr ille Republican says the Republicans of Montgomery county are in favor of an alliance between all parties of the Opposition in I860, with a platform broad enough for alldjAlso, there is a strong feeling in that part of the State in favor of the nomination of Judge Bates, of Missouri, for the Presidency, and Judge Morton seems to be the favorite candidate for Governor. Ex-President Pierce, who recently arrived in Boston from his European tour, was greeted with a grand sera nude of welcome in that city. He made a short speech, eulogizing Mr. Cboatc and his native land, which was warmly received. The Indianapolis Daily AlUt thinks the ticket Got. Willard has been laboring for at Wasbir.ean is. Huxtkk, of Virginia, tor President, and Willabd, of Indiann, for Vice President. There was a rumor current in Phil adelphia on the 26th ult., that the frigate Cnoarcaa, which left that c:ty on the 1 4th ult., had gone down with all ou board. Napoleon the Third has exhibited his usual tact and judgment of the feelings of bi people, in naking tbe following point iu the policy to be pursued : First The official announcement, iu the MoiiiUur, of a full and entire amnesty to all persons sentenced for political offence.-,or who bar been the object of any measures takeu fur the public security. Second The despatch to tbe great powers, declaring that France would not assist tbe self-exiled Priuces to return to their dominions by force, nor sennit Austria, or any otber power, to afford them military aid for that purpose. ThU will go a great ways to disarm tbe Red Republican opposition to bis Villafranca treaty, which was gradually and surely gaining ground. In the great majority of cases the political exiles will become his firmest adherents, while the declaration that he will not permit Austria or any other power to torce the self-exiled Italian prince 'if . ... upon an unwuuug people, will once more arouse tbe enthusiasm of the Italians iu his tkvor. Like a skillful mariner, he heeds th slightest indications of an approaching storm, and takes the only measures that will most completely disarm the rising iudigna-
