A correspondent of the Troy Time gtfa the folluwinir narrative of nn occurrence al Shrewsbury Lake, Vt., ns cominp: under his' I owu observation: The lake kl noted now on account of tin I death of a young num. a conductor on the j Kutland and Hurlington Railroad, who M Jt..v n.-l in it a short time ago. At the I time, he, with several others, were playing j "rocking tbe boat,' making it "dip water, I when, unluckily, they were all swamped. and this young man, the best swimmer in tbe party, was drowned. After a long and 1 nlmost hopeless search after the ln)dy, u very novel idea was suggested, which, after trial, proved successful in lending to the discovery Of his whereabouts. About three Ounces of quicksilver were put into a loaf of brown bread, well baked, snd thrown out into the lake. Tve loaf was discovered to move directly Hgainct the wind ; soon it stopped, whirled round several timvs, and sunk. They immediately rowed to the place and threw out the grapplers. The first Vita-i they hooked his face; the second time tin hook fastened into his !oot. nnd he was hauled into the Inrnt. Whwre he was fouu-I the water was seventy feet deep. In his pockets were a large silver watch and a considerable quantity of si'ver money, which caused the attraction of the quicksilver, nnd led to the discovery of his watery grave.--i The accident, place, aud singular circumstances connected with the sad affair, render it remarkable.
