Brsvttlsa. Dropping into Meier. Iioson a t'o. s new Foundry and Machine shops the. daj, we found them bosilj at work fsing up pulleys, and getting their shop in good order. A good portion of their machinery has not yet arrived, but they are getting everything else in its place, so that when it does come it will be but a short time before tbey will be ready for any and all kinds ot work. Some of their friends can t wait until they get fairly going, but must need send in their work forthwith. Success to the new firm ! Oar merchants are busy at preseent, receiving, unpacking, and puttiug up tbeir Fall goods. Many of our wholesale houses bare bought more extensively, we are told, than ever before. They intend to obviate the necessity of country merchants going to Louisville and Cincinnati to buy, by having a fine assortment of goods and selling them at living prices. All they ask of their friends is to give them a call, and examine ibe quality, style, and prices of their goods. A Mr. Reagan, charged with assaulting and robbing a Scotch tailor, was sentenced j to seven years imprisonment and lined S'-'j, vesterdav. He is also an accomplished card writer, mid will supply them wishing weddiug mt viaU- ' mg cardi at reasouable terms. . U In n tins section of tbe canal b ready tor Mtgaioat, boats can run tbrouyh to Toledo with le difficulty than has been know u toi a great lenpth of time. The new building of Krat A Heilman will be about tbe finest on First street. As a shop for manufacturing threshing machines, it will be by far tbe finest and best in tbe State. Some parties from the country were before Recorder XcBride, yesterday, for light iag. Tbey were fined, as is the custom in such cases. Dr. Sawyer ia putting a stone frout ia bis new building en Main street. It will present a Beat appearance when tinished. We are much pleased to find that it is posaiblo to get a supply ot vry choice shoew in our ritr. This is one of tbe articles eaaralla moat ditlinill to find It is oiie ot the difficulties we do not laW under, for at Hughes' we can always find a nice slock of jaacs, of tbe very best quality. Continue J to patronise biin, and be will he enabled to keep up tbe stock of good shoes, on which ! tbe profit is not half as large as on an inferior article. H. Nelson k Co. keep it going. They are selling dry goods to tbe ladies and gentlemen every morning. Come up this morning at 9 o'clock, as they hare received more goods that must be sold. ———<>——— v—>A drunken man was badly injured last evening at the corner of Water and Locust streets, by a severe plow on the head from a brick-bat, thrown by some person unknown, whom the intoxicated man had assailed or insulted. The person who dealt the blow immediately fled. The face and head of his victim were very much disfig- ured. ———<>——— ——>New Albany is infested with robbers and burglars. On Tuesday night a boarding house was entered, and about a dozen of the inmates robbed of all their pockets contained. One gentleman lost $240, but the others lost only small sums. No trace of the robber was discovered. ———<>——— PkURY'a VlCTOBV. A picture of Perry s v ictury on Lake Erie is to adorn one of the ' . iutnuels 111 the rotunda Of tbe Capitol at Washington, to be painted by Powell. He has recently beea on a visit to Dr. Parsons, at Providence, R. I., wbo was Surrou of Perry gag ship and id now the only surviving officer wbo participated in the glorious triumph. It ia a fact of which the gallant little State of Rhode Islaud may ba proud, that she furnished a large share of the officers and men tbat achieved tbe raosi glorious victory in our naval annals. Perry selected all his school fellows in his native town of Newport. In its day, it was a victory won bj the spirit and gallaulry of "Toting America." They were youthful heroes scarcely in tbe gristle of manhood. The New York Trihunr says there is a secret treasonable organization at tbe South, wbo style themselves u Knig-hts of the Golden Circle." Their object is the acn'liaitioti of Southern territory and the dissolution ot tlie Union, or its entire suliordinar ion to the purposes of slavery extension. A "General " Brickley appears to be tbe principal character, and to maintain a mysterious ponpousuesi that would have been remarkable in Louis Napoleon at Sollerino. It is said that Gen. Brickley has the luck to find many Southern sjhbJbMM I green enough to buy tbe bonds of tht ttaaocuUion, to he pnid out of its future coiuesta ami revenues. Tbe only harm it will ever do, will to telievs tbe simplu bondholder of a little spare cash.

By this oath, the lawyer swears he wilt do no falsehood, nor consent to the doing of any in court, and, according to the old form, he was also sworn to "inform" the court if he knew of any such intention on the part of others— this last clause is amended away.— He also swears he will not wittingly or willingly sue or promote any false, groundless suit: delay no man for lucre or malice, but conduct himself as well as he knows how, &c. It is thought this oath prescribes a dose "hard to take," under the habits engrndered [sic] by modern practice.
