EVAMVILLE, IMP. WEDNE6BAT M'JKNIN'... ... JULY 13 . It would bo u curious addition, tu literature, could there k a collection made of all the queer advertisements that have ever appeared in newspapers, ancient and modern. And however quaint things one may 6ud by looking over old newspapers, we think they would be eclipsed in odity'by some things found in the columns of newspapers of the present day. In looking over some old scraps and laid-away papers, the other day, our eyes fell on a queer advertisement found in an old copy of a paper called the Weekly Commercial, published at the village of New Boston, Illinois. The announcement was as follows : "My wife and I have an attack of something that we fear is old age. It looks like it, and feels like it. Has been coming on for some time, and gets gradually worse every year. We fear we shall not get well while on the farm. Said complaint is doubtless worse in consequence of our always having been hard workers. But we can't stand the hard knocks any more. We have no help only as we hire, and are going to sell our home that we may find time to die. Tbe subscriber then goes on to enumerate the qualities and advantages of the old homestead, such as its beautifnf groves, fine ' orchards, running water, good buildings, the clear spring, garden shrubbery, flowers, Ac, two hundred acres of land, and all within six miles of New Boston. And this happy little kingdom the unhappy owner proposes to abdicate and retire from, and very likely move into the town of New Boston, settle down in its dusty streets with a neighbor looking into bis dull windows, perhaps talking over his head. Strange droves of noisy children squall :ng about his doors, and strange broods of chickens .scratching ia bis diminutive, snn-burnt garden patch. What a ad error in the philosophy of living, this old farmer andhis wife are about to perpetrate. Their butter was sweet and golden in the ' ountry, the milk pure and cool from the spring-house; when they get to New Bosion they will tind the article in market spotted with the leprosy of unclean venders, and rank as the odors of the guttter in front of his gate. The milk, too, will be brought round in a tin can, creamiest, and as badly affected with the blues ' as the old farmer and his wife soon will be. The old man will set out two walking sticks of transplanted dwarfishness for a shade, each side of bis gate, which will flatter two leaves apc.-e as he passes thinking, with a sigh, of the forest grove that wooed the summer wind and sheltered the summer inl- be i-le his farm-house door. "We fear wc shall not get well while on the fens," Deluded old man. Old age found !u 111 and his siivcr haired companion in the country walk about with pure air, securely garrisoned in his stone bullae of eomiort filled with bountiful supplies, and he proposes to evacuate the fortress and fly til P' KiKlnil Ah n.Uul nmlo .U.I - ' 0 1 1 ' will quicken its pace when you get to town. They propose to sell their home that they may fiud leisure to die. As K they had not time to die in the country, and as if there wasany spot in the wide world more fitting to hail from in the journey to the othr world than a country home a home in the

Bogus iulf dollars, that would deceive the best jtsttge9 are in circulation. They have the color and ring of the true snctal, so it w ill be w ell tu look out for them. Wc learn from the Butflin:' (irccn Stitud ....... . . . , r , lci arJ, that the house in which on of it; cdttors Mr. Gauuaway resided, lieloiiging to i Frank Cook, Esq., was destroyed by lire on Thursday night last. Mr. Cook's loM is about one thousand dollars. Mr. (iannaway lost all his household furniture, clothing, kc. We learn from tlie Fayettcville Arkontian that a fatal rencounter took place in Hnntsville, Ark., on the "ith ult., wherein Forester Black, and Warren Sam?, a merchant in Huntsville, were killed, and John Black and Dr. James Smithson, of Fayetteville, and Constable Moody and James Suns, of Huntsville, were severely wounded. A young Frenchman named Louis Levciglee, seems likely to furnish his biographer, quite rapidly, with matter for his history. Lately he reached Cumberland, Pa., in an exhausted state, sealed up in a freight car, where he had crept to save fare. Since then he undertook to commit suicide, ai 1 failing in that, robbed a store. He is now under arrest. A young man named l'erry Shirley, 22 years of age, hung himself, near Gosport, in this State, to an apple tree. He had been deranged for some time before. The Lafayette Omrier report3 that a Mr. . Dewey of that place lost an eye on Friday morning, by getting muriatic acid in it. It destroyed the outer coating of the eyeball as lapidly as red-hot iron would do it. His sight is considered lost forever. The Vicksburg Sun says thnt Mr. Barnes, who resides on the Louisiana side of the river, has a large Durham cow which swims crow the Mississippi every morning and evening. She swims over to the opposite side to eat grass, and tiack again in the evening to be milked. A short time since, a man calling himself Auderson Bell, alias Wm. Anderson, w . detacted playiug the gay Lothnno with some of the school gi:b of the village of Hyneville, Alabama. With some he had improper inb-t iews, with others he was making arTeng 1 ntl to elope. In that case, it is thought that -luarez will have no difficuity in raising a ban in the Cuitvd .States ou the hypothecation of the uM-rn-ment lauds, estates, and securities. Alluding to the late balloou voyage from St. Louis eastward, the Philadelphia LeJft saya that a abort time ago, M. dkirvani, 11 Parisian, traveled in an .Trial machine, pait balloon and part flying; machine, to Algiers and back, fifteen hundred miles from tinstarting point, in eighteen hours, or eightythree mile an hour Thcse facts would in dicate that the power of controlling the direction of the atrial machine is !eiug acquired by balloonists, and that we may yet find a greater increase to our powers of locomotion than is afforded bv the railroad. It is becoming quite fashionable for a laI r.Hriler atlnwed of naUaaad i..ttpr .t tin. CM has been s0 much abused at many points upon the lines of railroad, that the PostoHice Department has found il invess.try to is..ue a cireular to route agents on the subject.
