I ulxt-rse, c'iuriunati to Nashville Kri.ru kv, Loniaville to M. iopl.i-Hj:-i" Mcl.eil.in, Metnpkdi to Lessiaille The river at this joint was slowly falling Saturday. Business on the wharf extremely dull with but little freight for shipment. The regular Evansville and Paducah packer, Silver Star, leaves to day for Paducah at noon. The Bowling Green <Gazette> says that the trestle work from the north abutment on Barren river, is completed to the middle pier, and the work is still progressing. In a short time track laying will be commenced north of the river. The river was falling at St. Louis on Friday. The Missouri was also filling. At Cairo the river continues to slowlv recede. The rise in the lower river has been considerably checked, and it was swelling slowly at Memphis, on Thursday. The Louisville <Courier> publishes an account of the steamboat disasters on the western waters, for six month past. 113 disasters are recorded which involved a loss pf property to the amount of $1,470.250. This, we believe, is by far the greatest loss that has ever occurred in the tame length of time. The Gen. D. M. White got up steam on Saturday evening. Her machinery worked satisfactory. Capt. Chauncy contemplates going out to-day. Unknown parties entered the office of the A. O. Tyler during the absence of the clerk, at Cincinnati last Thursday, and after scanning the freight book, purloined several blank freight bills. They afterward made out bills against Springer & Whiteman and others, who had received sugar, &c., by the steamer, and succeeded in collecting five or six hundred dollars. The Diamond, purchased by Cap [sic] Hazlep and others, several months since, has been attached at Cincinnati, owing to her previous indebtedness, and will be sold to meet those claims, and for the mutual protection of Capt. Hazlep and his partners. Capt. John Bugher has concluded to name his new side-wheel Memphis packet "Silver Moon." Jerome Duncan and others have chartered the Poland to take the place of the Scioto No. 2, in the LouisvilIe and Henderson trade. The Poland is expected down to-morrow evening on her first trip. The Scioto extends her trip to-morrow to Paducah. The most of the Cumberland river packets have retired from the trade on account of the low water. ———<>——— For th' Jc. r. .. ln FiiiTuP Permit ine tn oiiv s few wonls to the reader of the .Tonmal in reply to Mr. Dexter s eonitnutiication of Saturdny nicrning Being in company w-itl.
