Time works wondera. It is but a few years ago that the Frenca Government would not so much aa permi: the great Magyar to set his foot on itasoi.l Now he may not only go to France but before he goes he is the recipient of diplomauc courtesies extended to him by a French Minister. Hor3E or Refuge for the State. The Public Instruction, have purchased one hundred acre of land of General Drake, upon which to erect a House of Refuge. The land lays on the Rockville road, just four miles from the city limiU, and is well adapted for the purpose. It is high ground, undulating, and, with the exception of ten acres, is covered with valuable timber, and has two living springs of water upon it. The price to be paid is $40 per acre, when the title is perfected, and the contract is to be consummated on tho 1st of April next. The location is regarded as an excellent one by those acquainted with the property, and the price is very low, which is the limit fixed by law. The neit Legislature will undoubtedly make au appropriation for the erection of suitable buildings for an institution much needed for juvenile offenders, and which Will, when built, relieve the penitentiary of this class of convicts. Eiiioaanos aFNeoROia krom Louisiana. A Letter from New Orleans says the emigration of the free colored people goes on, on a largor scale than ever. The schooner Virginia Antoinette has left for Terontonta, a sroall port iu the State of Vera Cruz, Mexi co, with forty -tnree emigrants, all kindred. These people were li.irn and raised in the Attakapas county, Ln., where they are held in high estimation BOt only by their brethren of color, but also by the white population. Mr. Pintade, the head of this numerous family, uutil lately was engaged in commercial pursuit-', in which he wa.s Tery successful. In appearance, these people look more like tons of New England than persons of mixed blood, and their daughters can advAiitageoi.sly bear comparison with our renowned Creole beauties. On tue 20th instant, three hundred persons of color take their departure for Hayli, carry iug vvith them a large amount of property. Most of them are from the iural parishes, where tbey possessed sand and slave. Unprincipled demagogues, under the plea cf saving the South, but main!) for ettorl.ng money from n inoffensive people presented at thr last Legislature , lows of such a vexatious nature to the fre- ' ed people of Louisiana, that thty have" '""'hce determined upon abandoning forever the: native soil.
