We advise those who Would secure some of the genuine " bears grease " to apply early for it, as it " is passlag away like the morning dew." A Chanci to bi Jmpbovkd. As the season is passing .away, be is disposed to let bis rather too large stock of very superior goods " slide with it," even without proßt in preference ' to keeping them over for another season. . ' pointed for the purpose niontioned, consists of Judge Foster J. O. Jone, C. Baker, Judge Law and CUas. Denb . ".4 - Hon. Tbos. F. Marshall's Lkotube. tThe Hon. Tho3. F. Marshall is advertised to ; deliver a lecture this evening at Crescent City Hall, on the ordinance of 1787, and the legislation of Congress upon the subject . of. slavery. This interesting and exciting ; topic to be discuesed by eue from the South of Mason & Dixon's Hue, will draw a crowded audience. " Mr. Marshall's familiarity with legislative history of the country, will make his discourse a valuable' compendium of informrtion ou the subject ; and his brilliant oratory which makes every object it embraces attractive, will render the lecture ; to-night one of more than ordinary interest.'. '.. The Cincinnati Commercial says the present winter will witness "the running out of the last Bands of the lecture system."
t The thing has been overdone, it thinks,'and I 1 the people always inclinsd to extremes I ..have left the lecturers, this winter, to empty 'A halls' and seats. This may be the case in the V largest cities, where there aro so many oth- . I er sources of information and amusement, I but in the smaller and less favored cities I if . . . . -. I 11 and towns, the lecture system seems to have I t become one of tha established and most popI ular institutions of society. The lectures - i impart a vast fund of information, and serve I 1 as one of the principal means of keeping I t Western communities amoujr whom there are few men devoted to scieuce informed : 1 of. the ; discoveries ' and rapid advances ia t ssfentific knowledge. - In this city, this ' lesion, We have been peculiarly fortunate; ; the lectures have all been of the highest or- !; der, and have proven to be very popular; I they have excited a lively interest in the f subjects to which they referred, and have t' stimulated a thirst for more knowledge on collateral,. themes.. If relinquished in the i metropolitan cities, we hope fashion and
eaprice will not induce the people of the provincial towns and cities to abandon the lectures. The people 'fare not all learnt out yet,"- and can still derive much pleasure and profit from the lecture halls. ' :rc.a Decker and Kramer. iJlIt will be seen by a notice in the adver- ' t sing columns, that the old bouse, in which the two 'partners have been - associated for more than twenty years, is at last dissolved. It is like rending the ties of life, to dissolve the; connexions of two partners who have been.unitad by a common interest, and have - Struggled together through the vicissitudes "of "twenty years of commercial life. Their . strides to fortune have not been as long and " rapid' as thoso of somo others, but their eoucM has been constantly and regularly progressive. Their prosperity has rested upon the solid basis of prudence and unsullied Integrity. As they ..have acquired means they have aided in advancing the prosperity of the city, and giving employment to labor by enterprises outside of the regular business , among them, a very reliable manufactory of soap, candles, and oil, the products of which supply the country from Canneltou to Cairo, and are in the highest reputation among consumers. 4 The wine, from their vineyard, is among the best manufactured in this State, and they done much' to improve the culture of the Tine, and the mode of making and keeping uafive wine, Mr. Decker, who succeeds to the business of the house, has long been' the ' most active manager, and is as well known for bis many amiable personal qualities, as for his business tact. He will continue the business' of the house, and keep up the reputation of its manufactured a-tites, in the production 1 of which he intends to challenge the factories of Cincinnati to compete with him in price and quality.
