Hoople, when at the bend in the vicinity of Aurora, was running close to the Kentucky shore, and blew her whistle, intimating that she would keep the starboard. The descending steamer —the Iowa—Capt. Moore, answered the signal correctly, but subsequently gave dinerent signals. The Madison at once commenced backing and rang her bell, but received no response from the Iowa. Shortly after, the boats struck, the Iowa striking the Madison forward of her engines, cutting clear through to her kelston, crowding her into the wharf-boat at Aurora, where she sunk to her hurricane deck.— We are gratified to be able to state that as far as known there were no lives lost, although a rumor to that effect was prevalent in the city this morning. The officers and crew of the Madison came to the city on the steamer Telegraph this morning. The Madison had 600 tuns of freight on board; consisting principally of sugar mid molasses, which will no doubt prove a total loss. The boat itself was valued at $16,000. on which there was an insurance of $8,000. Capt. Hoople entered protest at this port this morning.
