The river was falling, with a fair stage of water all the way down. Business presented a somewhat livelier appearance than it has for some time past. Freight in considerable quantities is on our levee awaiting shipment. The Silver Star left on her excursion trip yesterday, with a good load of passengers bent on having a jolly time. The Evansville brass band played us some of their sweetest airs, and quite a crowd assembled on the landing to see them off. Macfarlands Metropolitan Troupe also embarked on board the Star, taking with them the well-wishes of many admirers. The Star will be up on Wednesday next, when she will be ready to go on another excursion trip to Paducah. This will be her last excursion, and those who found it imposible to make their arrangements to go yesterday should [sic] on hand Wednesday. Several Green river packets were at the landing on Saturday and Sunday putting off freight. The steamer Woodford came down light and made a large addition to her cargo at this point. We learn by the <Commercial> that the steamer Metropolis, from Pittsburg to New Orleans, run into the bank at the mouth of Sugar Creek, about 50 miles below Cincinnati, and instantly sunk No lives were lost. The boat has run three trips; she originally cost $26,000, and was insured in Pittsburg for $14,000. The weather at Cincinnati was wet on Sunday, and the river was falling at the rate of half an inch an hour. The Charley Bowen will doubtless be up, ready to go out at her usual time. Shippers will please have their freights in readiness. FOR BOWLING GREEN.— It will be seen that the H. Bridges will leave at 12 o'clock for Green river. =======
