running of the trains on the E k C. Railroad on Monday, there will be no train today at 1 20 P. M. " . Madison House. This flourishing hotel in Cincinnati has been thoroughly overhauled, cleansed and repaired, and is one of the best houses now in the city. .. It3 location makes it unusually convenient to the river and the business part of the city, and thereby renders it ft very desirable stopping place for those visiting the city to lay in stocks of goods. We sny to all, try the Madison House. As Embarrassing Denouement. The Detroit TrilunesAys a young lady of that city belonging to the most select circle, possessing a lovely face and a most attractive figure, which were only rivalled by the taste and elegance of her attire, called at a certain dry-goods store on Woodward avenue some days since, accompanied by a little sister, a bright-eyed, pretty, and lovely child, not over three years of age. The clerks of the establishment were, of course, all grace and politeness, and each vied with the others for the privilege of waiting upon the charming lady. The fortunate one happened to be a tall young man, with a most killing black moustache, the most faultless ruffles, collar a la Byron, and coat of the most approved cut and make. A profusion of jewelry ornamented his fingers, and wa3 displayed in various eligible positions on his attire. Every move he made wa3 a pattern of gracefulness, and politeness came from him as a matter of course. He spared no pains in his attentions to the fascinating customer, and Bought by every possible manoeuvre to make a good impression of himself. After showing the lady through the establishment, and satisfying all her wants, the bill was made up and the money paid, which was handed to tie cash boy. While that official was absent for the change, theyonng man sought to make himself particularly agreeable with Dis attractive customer, and, stepping from behind the counter, he stooped with most elegant grace and kissed the child. But imagine his consternation to hear the little one, with artless simplicity, cry out, "I don't like you: you been drinking brandy." This was too ranch for our polite clerk, who vanished quickly. fcäT" Peter Nelson, of South Troy, New York, recently discorered that his wife loved somebody else better than she did him, and, unlike most "outraged husbands," he sought the "destroyer of his peace," and disposed of his "better half" for$17in cash and a sewing machine valued at $90. The Madison Courier very sensibly suggests that' less newspapers from Indianapolis and more from the provincial cities and the out counties, ought to be subscribed for by the Legislature. The editor thinks that the members need to be instructed better of the state of feeling through the State. B&Sharp as Yankees are at home, they always get keener by going West. The Merchants Despatch continues bringing Goods from New York and Boston, nt as low rates as any Despatch or Rail Road Express, and in as good or better time, having unequaled facilities for safe and speedy transportation. No Despatch or Fast Freight Line has any cm. ectioH with us. Arrangements were made by us early last Sprimr, by which we ore enabled to forward not only the lighter portion of shippers' freight, but we can carry both light and heavy with Die same promptness which has always characterized the " Merchants' Despatch." Bringing our freights in our own cars, with passenger trains, and havingour own ageutant points of transhipment, we have advantages in point of speed nnd safety, which render it impossible for other companies to comjiete w ith us. This Despatch is owned and managed by the American Express Company, which is a sufficient . guarantee that all jnt claims will be settled without delay, as has been the case for the past three years, and to the satisfaction of those by whom thev may be presented.
