The managers have settled up all the business connected with the exhibition, aud after paying the expenses of fitting up the ground, the purchase of the premiums, and other costs attending the Fair, find the Association will have a small surplus left. Tho Association only rented the ground which they occupied, for one year. We would e vll the attention of strangers visiting our city, to our public library. The library rxms are pleasantly and centrally located, in Foster's block, on the corner of Main and First streets, and they will find them a pleasant place to spend a leisure hour. , The library is well selected, the reading room filled with the lending newspapers of the U lion, and the librarian, Mr. Crifp, or his ?sistant, alwlays present to give them acordiai welcome. Our business men should see that their fiiends arc introduced. The rooms are free to strangers. A FIial Afekay. Washington, Nov. 4 ji. It will be ' recollected that, several months ago, the government of Grei.t Britain suggested, in general terms, that some mode bo adopted for the verification ofthe nationality of the vessels which could be used by both parties w ithout offence to either ; but the distinct form of the proposition has not b'eeu made, nor is it known what arrangements Her Majesty's government will recommend, j It is not, however, considered tobe necessary for the United States to take the initiative steps in the matter, a.s the law of nations is acknowledged by Great Britain to mean that fur which the United States had always contended ; and this to the latter is satisfactory if the English government adheres to its observance ; but if she should offer any specifi eposal.incon.-onance withthees a'ilished iav of nations on this subject, her proposition will, of course, be entitled to consideration. . The substance of the dispatch of Lord Napier to the State Department is reported to be, in cTect, that the Nicarauguan government will avail itself of the aid of the British fleet to prevent the landing of fi'libusters. Our govt raiment considers itself able to support the ne t ality law 8. Should, therefore, Walker i n J his followers full into the hsnds of the British, and thus be prevented from carrying out their d signs, it would prove an occurrence much to be deprecated, and it would produce a'i unpleasant state of feeling against the British government. Washington, Nov 4-m. Despatches from Chicago to the Washington Stur, clearly indicate that there is a large majority of Douglas men elected to the Legislature, and a large majority of the popular vote over both tl Republican and Administration. The vole for the Administration candidates is about 3,000 out of the 240,000 cast iu the S.ate. Most of the office holders voted the republican ticket. Trestos, X. J. Nov. 4 m. The result iu New Jersey foots up a total loss to the Democrat. . The following Congressmen have betu elected by be-.ivy majorities: First district, J. H. Nixon, rep.; Second district, J. N. L.
