SS5We had the pleasure, last evening, of examining a fine horse belonging to Mr. Preston Talbot, of Poseyrille, which he is taking to the Henderson fair. It is a beaui -ful animal, and will attract attention among our Kentucky neighbors, who are judge-s nnd admireis of fine animals. - SyWe think persons making their Fall purchases, enjoy peculiar advantages by trading at Hughes'. They get good goods, nd if disposed, can procure the services of Lis excellent tailor (who is direct from the East) to cut or manufacture any articles for -gtntleriieu's or boys' wear they want, and at very low prices. Fine. The members of the Young America Fire Company No. 3, are hereby notified to meet at their hall on this Tuesday evening, October 5, 1858, at 8 o'clock. In taste, elegance and real comfort, it is not surpassed by any establishment of the kind in the State. ' : Mr. Harrington opcn3 to-day, with an elegant lunch at ten o'clock. The Rev. John K." Mengerl, late pastor of Zion, Church, opened the services with giving out the first stanza of Luther's own hymn " A well fenced fortress is our God," which was sung with much enthusiasm by the German portion of the assembly. The Rev. Mr. Sterrltt then gave out a few lines of an En glish hymn, after which a portion of the Uhird chapter of Jirst .Corinthians was read. both in German and English, and a short prayer offered by the Rev. Mr. McCarer, in r-oking the Divine blessing on the enterprwe. The pastor of the congregation, Mr. Men gerl, then proceeded to read a short declaration of the reasons which compelled his peo ple to start this enterprise, after which, th tin box, containing a copy of the holy Scrip tares, and several catechisms, together with copies of the leading religious and political journals of the day, and a few specimens of 4he enrreat coins of this eountry, were deposited in the cavity of the stone, in the name of the Divine GotJ. Persons who have long been afflicted with Scrofu la, Old Sores, Tetter, Ringworm, Scald Uoad, Blotches, Eruptions of the 8k iu and all Cutaneous Diseases, are advised to procure Gridley's 5alt Rheum and Tetter Oiutmeut to apply on tho Bores, or diseased parts, when using Dr. Easterly's Iodine and Sarsaparilla. The Iodine and Sarsaparilla purifies the Blood, and causes the sores to discharge their putrid matter, and the ointment heals them. It was so violent, that a lady who was near forty rods from her house fell to the ground several times before getting to her door. It seemed as if the houses would tumble down. The provoked woman became so exasperated at the cow, while turning her out, that she, by the infinity of her passion, ruptured internally a blood vessel, and before medical aid could be rendered, bled to death. ———<>——— IGNEOUS CHARACTER OF THE GLOBE.— About sixteen hundred different observations have been made in different places, and the uniform law has been developed in each of those observations, that at fifty feet beneath the surface of the earth, there is no change in the thermometer during winter or summer; descend another fifiy feet and the temperature rises one degree, and for every additional descent of fifty feet, there is a gain of one degree of heat. Water brought up by an artesian well from a depth of 1,827 feet, is almost blood warm; from 2,200 feet it is of the temperature of the blood; and coming from still greater depths, it issues upon the surface in a state of actual ebullition. At a depth of one and a quarter miles, water could not exist except in the shape of steam; still lower we should find a sea of fire, the liquid mass moving in waves within the outer shell, an infinite force which, when once aroused, spreads over the earth and its inhabitants. ———<>——— A st (.RICAS' and Fbknch Newspapers.
