A Mysterious Marder. The Louisville Journal learns that a dead body was found within a mile of Charlestown, Indiana, on Saturday night, under circumstance which induces a very strong suspicion of foul play. The body was conceal
ed in the mouth of a sugar furnace, with a handkerchief twisted around the. neck and strapped over a pole which rested upon the ' top of the furnace. A strip of cotton cloth was tied around each leg. Some marks of blood were visible upon another piece of cotton goods by which the handkerchief was attached to the pole. The individual had probably been dead for some weeks, and the body was in such a condition a3 to preclude the possibility of recognition. There was nothing found on his person to disclose 'his name or residence, and decay had progressed so far that it was impossible to tell his age.

'Me. Lyons i3 determined to. keep pace :with the demand of the age ; and not only makes up handsome garments to order, but
' has thiä fall brought on a large and various j stock of clothing, which cannot be excelled in style or workmanship ly any custom , shop in the State Lyoks' charges aro always reasonable, his material is good, and he has his work well done. JfcsJ" We Invite the attention of the sick and afflicted, to the advertisements in our columns of Dr. Easterly's Iodine and Sarsa- ,. parilla, and Gridley's Salt Rheum and Tettef.Qialment, Dr. Carter's Cough Balsam, ; Dr. Baker's Specific, Dr. Hooper's Female Cordial, and Dr. Easterley.s Fever and Ague Killer. ' These medicines are prepared by a thoroughly educated Physician, Chemist and Pharmaceutist, so that all can rely upon them as being safe and effectual in curing '. the diseases, for which they are recommended. They are standard remedies, and can be found in nearly every Drug and Apothery ttoryin the United States.
U V think it is hardly known even to the most
intelligent of our readers, how deep some of ths sciences are looking down into the mysteries of
creation. We knew thero were wonderful discover
ies in those times, and wonderful uses made of them, but did not know the Chemists were imitating In their crucibles and even surpassing the most wctnlerful productions of organic lifo. During our visit to
Lowell we wore introduced by one of their promin
ent citizens to the laboratory of Dr. AYERt (inventor of Cherry Pectoral and Cathartic Pills),
whero we were shown with generous frankness, his
processes nnd his product?. This master genius of
his art is manufacturing the subtle essences of ficwers from tar and other vegetable substances. His essence Pine Apples, Strawberry, Checkerbcrry, Quince, Pear, Canella, Ciunawen, Ac, not ouly
equal but they exceed in purity of flavor those veg- I etablcs themselves. His oil of Winter-green is purer and of better flavor than any that can bo gathered from the plant aud jet id madu by chemical composition from the Hydro-carbons in tar I His procoss is, to analyze the substance and find the exact ultimate atoms of which it is made, then recomposo them in the same proportions which exist in nature. Christian Adroeale. nr. Emtrly,M Iodine mnd Sartoparitln Will cure ail diseases arising from au impuru state of the Blood, or a depraved condition ,"f the fluids of the system, viz: Cancers, Swelling of the Glands, Rheumatism, White Swellings, Chronic Sore Eyes, Piles, Boils, Erysipelas, Goitre, Pains in the Biiws and Joints, Ulcers in the Mouth aud Tliroat, and all
Chronic Constitutional Diseases. This medicine searches out the very roots of the disease by purifying the blood, and changing the secretions In the system, thns removing the cause, which renders the euro certain and permanent. Dr. Easterly's Iodine and Sarsaparillu will cure the worst mercurial disease and drive out and destroy every particle of mercury hieb is iu the system, and cure its bad effects.
It will curs Secondary Syphilis or Venereal Diseases, and will drivs the Syphilitic Virus and all hereditary taiuts and poisonous matter out of tho system through the pores of the skin, and restore the Patient to a perfect state of health and purity. It is a poeitive cure for liver complaint and dyspepsia, if used a proper length of time. I challenge the world to produce Its equal in these complaints. The afflicted will bear In mind that Dr. Easterly's Iodine and Sarsaparilla will re all Nervous Diseases, Female Complaints, Dropoy, Gravel, Diseases
of the Kiducys, Bladder and Lrinary Orgaus in a few dnvs.
It will remove Pimples aud Blotches from the Face, and make the skin clear, white aud beautiful as alabaster. It does this by purifying the blood, and by its prompt action on the Liver, Kidneys, aud Secretory Organs, producing vigorous health. Persons who have long been afflicted with Scrofula, Old Sores, Tetter, Ringworm, Scald Head, Blotches, Eruptions of the Skin and all Cutaneous Diseases, are advised to procure Gridley's Salt Rheum and Tetter Ointment to apply on tho Sores, or diseased parts, when using Dr. Easterly's Iodine
and Sarsaparilla. The Iodine and Sarsaparilla pu
rifies the Blood, and causes the sores to discharge their putrid mattnr, aud the ointment heals them. When both arc used (which I always recommend) a permanent and radical cure is always effected. Thev are the best aud most powerful curatives
known to man. A fair trial is all I ask I do not fear the result. Price of the Iodine and Sarsaparilla St per bottle, or 0 pottles for S5. Gridley's Salt Rheum Ointment 73 cents per bottle. Both are prepared by Dr. Easterly, corner of Third and Chesnut streets, St. Louis, Missouri, sole proprietor, to whom all orders must be addressed. Unsold by Hallock St Stoddard; W. The weather is warm, with no indications
of rain. Opposite this city, the river has receded almost to the dimensions of a
respectable sized creek. Business at the
levee is dull, and few boats arriving, though freights are plenty. There are 22 inches of
water on Scuffletown bar, and at latest accounts 6 or 8 boats hard aground.
Capt. White, late of the packet Bowling
Green, has been selected by the General Council of Louisville, to take the place of
Capt. Eli Vansicklc, deceased, as falls pilot. Capt. W. was long engaged in the Tennessee river trade.
NEW ORLEANS.—The steamer City of
Memphis <Bulletin> says:
When we left New Orleans there was a
great scarcity of boats for any point, but fully
enough for what business was doing. We
never saw things look so dull as at present; and up stream, the freight and passenger traffic is very scarce. The fever is still very bad, and but little chance for improvement;
yet all it requires is one or two frosty nights, when it will take its departure, and matters will brighten up a little we hope.
Capt. Fowler has placed the Alida in the
Evansville and Paducah line, along with the Silver Star, and will extend their trips to Cairo during the continuance of low water. This arrangement is made on account of the difficulty in making time between Paducah and Evansville, with the
Silver Star alone. Whyte Fowler takes command of the Alida.
Capt. James F. Smith, well known on the
Ohio, has been appointed to the command of the Memphis and New Orleans packet
John Simonds.
The Alvm Adams is running between
Cairo and Memphis.
Donnette's troupe of monkeys, dogs and
goats, together with Birch's Minstrels, have
gone up Tennessee river, on the steamer
Banjo.
Capt. John Barrington Archer, late of the
Southerner, is now in command of the Po-
tomac. Success to him.
The Paducah <Herald> urges the starting of
a packet line between that place and Bow-
ling Green. It thinks such a line would
prove profitable.
River business is represented as being brisk enough at Cairo, and also a great improvement in re-shipping; the freight be-
ing sent south as rapidly as it arrives.
Travelers who are awaiting this coming
and going of boats must make up their minds to expect none, and there will be less disap-
pointment.

The entire production last year was 1.000,000 tons, while the consumption was oulv

great extent, accounts for the unusually small demand from England. The iron
