EVANSVILLE,' IND. A 8ATCKDAT MOUSING ...... .SETT. 26 That Jii'lfrc L?iw "instigtrted lfoveyto come out a aa independent candidate," is aSoui as infamous a lie as any bTacfTepü' licain scoundrel has yet attempted to circulate ia tins District. Jude Law, as is well known, was most emphatic in his uuwilliuueii to see Hovey come out a a euUidate against the regular.' nominee, and influenced by a firm conviction of the impolicy and evil, both as to Hovey himself and to the iartv. of such a course, he used his ut most endeavors to prevent such a result, by Itrying to dissuade Hovey from hi3 insane and self-ruinitting determination. Judge Law h.i3 ever Lcen a most unflinching and consiston democrat, and to even insinuate that he ever wavered in Iiis political integrity so far as to countenance, much less encourage, a bolting renegade in his traitorous attempts to heal up the wounds of personal chagrin. l.v a course of ialpable and selfcondemniii? political aDOstacv. is in plain contradiction not only to the known character of Judge Law, but to the facts of the case itself. Enquirer. The a'iovc is the characteristic style of the Lecomptou organ in this county, .with whom no man with any self-respect will raise a question of veracity. Iiut let Judge I-aw, or any responsible friend, repent the assertion that "Judge Law was most emphatic in his unwillingness to sec Judge Hovey come out as a candidate against the rcular nominee,'' and that "he used his utmost endeavors to prevent such a result, by trying to persuade Hovey from his insane and self-ruinating determination," mid the falsehood will bo fixed upon' him by the testimony of twenty citizens, whose character will weigh as much in any moral and political scale except that used by ..Lecouiptonism as that of Judge Law; as derated and as much esteemed as it has been. We don't impeach Judge Law's democracy, but we declare there was not a more oienly avowed anti-Lecomptonite in' the District not one wha has in more unequivocal," severe,' and litter terms denounced the Kangas policy of lluchanau condemned , the votes and course of Judge Niblack, and applauded the doctrines und noble stand of Judge Douglas, than Judge Law for six mouths previous to his visit to the Kast in July last. ...... The pretence of consistency und hone.ty of views made by :i man who is supporting NibLick and applauding Cuchanan, in one breath, aud denouncing Lccomptonism in another, is so gross and palpable a shame as to be aa insult to the public. Ignorance and credulity of the lowest and weakest degree cannot swallow a contradiction so self-evident and monstrous Can any one, unless he has lieeoiiio hardened by the basest political tergiversation?, ctand up before the voters of the I'ir:t Congressional District and advocate t!ic re-election of Niblack, whose votes he Ii.h pionouueed damnable and an outrage upon tin; xpular rights, and who, instead of repenting of the treason, is pledged to pursue it ? Can he profess to approve, 1?foro the people, James Huchanan, the author of the doctrines and the instigator of the iura. nrcj which he has condemned as alarming i.lations of j-opuhr freedom and Democratic principle? Judpc Law has said within ten d iy-J that ho wasstill as decidedly anti-Lc oiuptou as ever. If f, does he not present a figure at which h'n friends niut hide their ficcs for shame? Has he a countenance brazen enough, a head so false 1 1 its hone, t prompting-, as to uphold inen who arc th nuthrsainla'K.ttorsof measures he has so severely condemned in the hearing of all of u; .' Can lie supirt Ituihanan, who, n"Cfrdiug to the declarations of his coadjutor, (leu. Laue, has determined if endorsed bv the re-election of h'n minicus, to force these coudcniiicd and odious measures ''down the throats of the rebels of Kansas in spite of Screeching," an 1 who has pledged himself, Hi Senator Ilrown say?, "in the most iieilive and unerjiiivocal terms, that he will appoint n') man t oflice, or retain any mm in oflice who does not endorse, the Executive Kanas Iolicy and the swindle of the English Dill." Iy what motive li.u he been induced to enter the canvas for NiUl.uk, whoso rc-chr-tiun would 1c an cndorseiucnt by the people of this district, of the acts and doings of the Administration, and of Niblack's votes, which he has himself so often'pronounced "iufainous and outrageous,-' mid which he, at this moment, professes to hold in utter condemnation as an anti-I.ecoiup-tonite. The public disaffection of Judge Law, will l.v attended with no detrimental coa-ffiuences, except to himself; he has coiiipletely nullified his own influence. It is evidence of the potent influences now being excited t conquer public sentiment to gain aa aip:;rcut iopu!ur sanction of the Administration. The stronger these proofs, the more earnestly will the people arouse tl'cmsclvcs to a dc fence of their prerogatives, and t make their will the law.- - . FROM KANSAS.—A friend writes from

Quindaro, under date of the 19th inst., that in politics, every thing is quiet in the Territory. The people are busy in selecting their candidates for the Legislature, to be voted for next month. They are ever where required to pledge themselves as Free State men, and to vote against negro suffrage and negro immigration in the Territory. Judge Wright, formerly of Indiana, has been selected for the Legislature, by .the citizens of Quindaro and vicinity. It is not generally thought that an application for admission as a State, under the Leavenworth Constitution, will be made to congress at the next session. A Convention cannot be elected and a new constitution be framed and adopted by the people, before the first of March next. So Kansas will remain a territory till after 1860, and lose her vote in the Presidential election, which will be equivalent to a gain of three electoral votes for the Buchananites. The writer says a gold fever is raging, that threatens to carry off a large number of citizens from the territory and from Missouri, to the newly discovered gold diggings, which are at out 600 miles west of Kansas, on the eastern slope of the Rocky mountains. The accounts received in Kansas, seem almost fabulous. Sensible men, however, show great distrust of the stories told, particularly as those who bring the news, bring but few specimens of the gold. Some small quantities have been brought in, and one lump weighing <twenty ounces>, and said to be 22 carat fine; but, as these were in the possession of returned Californians, a great many suspect there is some cheat in the matter. If the reports should prove true, there will be an immense rush next Spring to the South Platte valley and Pike's Peak. In the course of a few weeks the Wyaudotte Iudian-i will rrfie their bwt payment, m a uation; from the United States, after which there will he a general stampede among them to join the Seneca.' and other nations, to the South of the Territory ; a great many of th?m have already sold their individual khares in the laud they liate received in the general division of the land: reserved by the nation. As a tribe they are dissolved ; and the oiue f.rniidahle name of the " Wynndotte Nation will live only in histtry and tradition ; the remnant of the nation will be Mattered and incorporated among the decaying bands of their western . neighliors. A few members ot the tribe have adopted civilized habits have become citizens of the territory, and enjoy all the privilages of white men under the laws. Some of them are rich, und possess the rudiments of learning. ----- [Communicated. The Kansas Gold Regions. LECOMPTON, K. T., Sept. 17, 1858. MR. CARLILE—<Dear Sir:> Of course you have, before this time, heard of "Pike's Peak." Well, I promise giving you and your many readers, a few facts in relation to this new El Dorado. It is now an indisputable fact that gold has been found there, and in np small quantities. I saw a gentleman who had just returned from the Peak to this point, with three or four wagons, on his way to Kansas City, for the purpose of buying provisions to take back to his company, to support them through the Winter. He bought some very fine specimens of gold, which he had Mined, and says that he has taken out from seventeen to twenty dollars per day, in some places; and the more they prospect the better they find the gold. There is a train of wagons to start from here to-morrow, and another from Leavenworth on the same day. It is but thirty days travel for a loaded wagon from this point, allowing them to go a very little over twenty miles per day.— There is plenty of grass for teams, and also water, all along the road; so I learn from Col. Johnson, who has returned, as I have stated above. You can give this an insertion in your paper or not, as you see proper. I have stated nothing but what is true. Yours respectfully, F.
