MOSDAT MOJtXINO : .SEPT. 20 See First ami Fourth Pag for Interesting Reading Blatter. Local and Miscellaneous , Wc learn from the Boston papers th.it all the peaks of the White Mountains -were capped with snow on the 24th tilt. Mr. James Allen has completely renovated and refitted the Green River Hotel, and is prepared to furuish excellent accommodation to boarders. ay Mayor Swann, of Baltimore, has been re-nominated by the American party of that city fur the office he now holds, and accepted. He will doubtless be elected. Tjr Coder's Book, for October, U peculiarly rich in plates and reading. Desi.les its ordinary embellishment, it baa fine enTaririj of the four miracles of Christ. She was thought to be rcoiTerir.g. The other youug lady, injured at tlc ?r.me time, it is thought can-miU-sursivc not survive.—<Cin. Times>. ---<>--- FROM UTAH.—The Salt Lake mail arrived at St. Joseph on the 10th, twenty days out. The Mormons continued to arrive in the city, from the South, and were entering upon their usual avocations. Brigham Young still keeps himself concealed, and lives in constant danger and fear of vengeance from his own people, who have become greatly incensed at the unveiling of his numerous frauds. This confirms former reports. ---<>--- ----->The other day, as we passed down titreet, we noticed an individual dressed in the latest style of fashion, coat and pants of the most Approved cut shoes glossy but, ah me I the hat spoiled all." We fear it had a brick in it the night before. A nice hat is an ahsolute essential to a complete dress, and why a man should persiit in wearing a mis-ehapeu hat with Vactür k Mahconn kier's 5o handy, is a mystery to us. fcj3T"Mr. Daudy, a member of Congress, who has just leen nominated for re-election by the adherents of Buchanan, in a speech accepting the nomination, and making pledges for the future said: " Under the question of tariff, I likewise freely nsure you that my efforts shall be directed to secure such a wist and judicious tariff as will discriminate iu favor of our own people, and afford proper protection to American productions and manufactures." yA good deal of feeling exists among the spiritualists, growing out of the scpararation of Mrs. Cora L. V. Hatch, the celebrated trance medium, and her hustmnd. Domestic dittimlties have been the cause, and, it is alleged, the cruelty of her liu?b:ind. It was nnnouueed that on Sunday Mrs. Hatch, would speak at three o'clock, in Clinton Hall, Atlantic street, Brooklyn. At the hour appoiuted the Hall wa3 crowded, when a letter was read from Mrs. Hatch, stating that her husband had made threats to prevent her from speaking should she attempt it, and to use force, if necessary to accomplish his purpose. tT The dnty of popular sovereignty Democrats in Indiana is defined in the annexed from the Indianapolis Democrat: Now it is well known tint the administration of Mr. Buchanan 44 is engaged in a warfiire upon Senator Douglas which no true friend of that gentleman and of the principles which he advocates, can sanction or countenance in the remotest degree with out branding himself with li.-gra-c and dishonor. To deny, in the tte'.h of the arrar of facts that hare !ee n developed, that the administration is thus engaged, is the sheerest non.en?e. o man who means to be honest with himself or his fellow men, -will attempt to do so. The question then is, will the friends of .Mr. Douglas strength en the hands of the administration and in crease its chances of success in its ultimate designs against Mr. Douglas, by adding to its list of retainers and followers? In the present posture of affairs, the true policy of the friends of Mr. Douglas as the great champion of the doctrine of popular sovereignty, seems to us to be clearly defined. We cannot go into Illinois to fight his hatties there, but we can refrain from supplying arms and ammunition to the principal enemy who is seeking to overthrow him. Coy It is astonishing what an immense amount of trouble can be occasioned by the putting up of one new building. Mr. Aikman, who is erecting the fine one on the corner of First and Sycamore streets will have much to answer for in this particular. Messrs. Hollingsworth & Bro.are to move in this building about the 25th of Octolier. Messrs Wheeler k Riggs are to take their pkee; II Gumberts is to move in the building now occupied by i Wheeler & Riggs and A. D. Reynolds k Co. are to take Mr. Gumbcrt's place.
