J m I CST We understand that the steamer Hudson will be up this week and will hereafter run as a regular packet between thia point and Cairo. The Hudson is a very light draught steamer requiring only about fifteen inches water and will be able to make regular trips. XarThe Done will lay up, for a hört time, until there w a better tag of water. The river 13 too low now to permit of heavy freight trip., and aa the Pone depended upon freight for her support, her officers concluded it lest not to rnn her, until they could do so with profit. . ... 2r The Kate Sarchct is rapidly approarhing completion. Several changes have been made on the original model. Her gnards have been widened, her cabin cut down, her loiler3 lengthened, and her jjvhcel enlarged. The cabin will I finished off in a much better style than formerly, and the whole boat will present a more symmetrical apjcarancc. She will be completed, if no accident orenr., in about six week. J&rB" 1'rof. Xott gave a pleasant party at Marble Hall, on Saturday evening, to hi pupils and their friend. It was one of the most agreeable re-unions of the season. The beautifully executed liolcro, with castinctt?, by the two little daughters of Mr. Held, of llcndcr.-wn, elk-ited the admiration and applause of the whole company. The Ilighlmd fling, by the younger sister seldom surpassed in graceful "alwndon" by profe-ij fional dancers on the stage. These pupils do credit to Prof. Nott's tact and faithfulness ns a tciuhtr. W'c are glud to hetir that he ha? flattering prospects of a large school for the autumn and win'er. Onr citizens will no, soon find anotin r instrti'.tor who wi!l take so mu h pnins toiniprint the graces of motion aad propriety of manners, ns the Frofes.or. It is the study and glory of his life, to frm perfect models of grace and refinement out of the uncouth subjects submitted to his care. -EvanTllle Plnno. We h.'id the pleasure on SatunLy of listening to some music executed 011 two very elegant nnd rich toned pianos ji.st completed br Mr. Christian Decker of this city. In tvlc of finish and rithncs and depth of tone they are pronounced eqnal to any from the manufactories of IJoston, New York, or Philadelphia. Mr. Decker. was a leading workman in some of the large piano factories of flernwny before became to this country ; and he was encouraged to emigrate to this city by his namesake, Mr. Christian Decker, the wagon maker. Though of the same name they are not of kin. The piano maker under the patronnpeof the wagon maker, has produced three superior instruments, doing all the work in each department with his own hands. They arc mo.t thoroughly made. His purpose is to establish the manufacture of pianos as a permanent branch of business here, and he shows by what he has done under great disadvantages what may be done under better auspicet when be shall hare procured a regular workshop and machinery. He deserves the fostering patronage of our citizen.. W'c rail attention to his advertisement. A Tbkat roa our PeorLB. On Monday next, (13th), the greatest combination of attractions that has ever visited our city, will make its appearance ou board the Floating Palace. It consists of the celebrated and wonderful Donntti'a Performing Monkejs, Dogs, and Goats; the wonderful Bearded Woman with a beard an inch long, and her Infant Son; the widely known Birch's Negro Minstrels ; altogether forming the greatest array of attraction ever presented here. A gentleman who witnessed the performance of these monkeys, &c, at a recent engagement at Wood's Theatre, says: "The furor the r excited was immense, fllinsr the house from pit to to dome nightly, for more than four wcek3. Mission Amoxo the Mohmoxs. The cor respondent of the New York Times, in a late letter from Utah, wiitcs: '-Tlie presence of the army here will make nn opening for missionary enterprise, which should not le lost sight of. The mass of people in this valley, and especially the young, never heard of any religious faith except Mormonism. Perhaps 110 other influence would be so powerful in breaking up the Mormon Theocracy as the establishment here of an evangelical church, or several of them, in which pure religion and undefikd truth may be presented in bold contrast with the revolting doctrines preached and practiced among the spurious saints. With the armj litre to defend the rights of the kGcnlilcs" to pulpits cf ihtir own, such nn enterprise could readily be established and sustained, provided our good friends in the Eaf t will divert to this worse than pagan-darkened spot a portion of the contributions which are now scattered to no more benighted islanders in distant seas."' V3yThe Roman Catholic priest of a village of the diocese of Raab in Hungary, was lately cited by Iii bishop before the ecclesiastical tribunal for having caused the Ulis of his church to lc tolled as a mark of respect on the death of the Protestant pastor of the village. Uut oi it has been the custom in Hungary for a length of time for the Catholic and Protestant clergy to live together on good terms and have respect for each ollitr, the tribunal refused to entertain the complaint.
