A Sew Trade There arrived at Princeton a few d;iva ago, a drove of one hundred mustang horse?, which the owners had purchased in Mexico, on the borders of the Rio Grande, and had driven a distance of 1,800 miles through Texxs Arkansas, Missouri and Illinois into tjibson county, Indiana. They cost on an avarage in Mexico two dollars and fifty cents each. They had been driven the en tire journey without one cent of expense for feed. They had maintained themselvcsln trood condition by rrazinz at nicht upon the grass they found by the way. The adventurers started with a drove of 150. They hwt but three animals by sickness or accident, and one of those was drowned by swimming the Wabash river on Sunday. In one instance the animals were driven over a journada of nearly 200 miles without finding water; yet they apparently Fuffcred but little. Forty or fifty animals were sold on the route, and the owners are rinding purchasers for those they brought in at prices from $25 to $100 which makes the speculation a very remunerating one. Steam on the Bfew Tork Canal. Tbe experiments of propelling canal boats by steam has proved successful on the Erie Canal, and promises a new era in canal navigation. The boats are upon tbe propeller principle. In the recent, experiment the boats made eight miles in two hours without difficulty, creating a scarcely perceptible swell, in no case exceeding three inches in height, and much less than was always made by the old packet boat. The tiller chains, which were not exactly fitted were then re-arranged, and the company started, tbe boat making ten miles in two hours under the new arrangement, with apparently the fame ease that she had made the previous eight miles. Those who were on board; those who have long been connected with the navigaigation of the canal, and who are experts in the matter, concur, one and all, in the opinion tliat the experiment is no longer an exlerinient; that it was eutirely successful, aud that the navigation of the canal by atCHin, is now only dependent upon a matter of time in bulding profilers. As Cunal Commissioner Ruggles says, hereafter the price of transmission of freight from Buffalo to New York, is reduced fifty per cent, which must inevitably monopolize all the vast trade which now finds its way from the Lakes to tle Ocean. Lt. Macht and the Atlantic Cable. In a letter of advice and direction, written by Lt. Maury, fifteen months ago to Mr. Field, he made the following suggestions, which hare leen verified by experience He also recommended that the vessels should be kept tvt good speed, and in laying the Vhle, they run at the rate of six nautical miles an hour, without once stopping the engines. To this good management is the success now to be attributed : " The enterprise upon which you are engaged is an important one. Good weather is very desirable, nay, almost indispensable ; and these barometric anomalies are suggestive. Perhajw it would be wise for the steamers not to join cables until after the 20th of July. 1 think between that time and the 10th of August the state of loth sea and air is usually in the most favorable condition possible; and that is the time which my investigations indicate as the most favorable for laying down the w ire. I recommend it, and wish you good luck'" Yours, M. F. Mavuy. ZST Troxell, who is accused of roblnng tbe safe at the Pavillion, had his examination yesterday, before Justice Walker, and was committed for the want of $500 t-uil. We understand Troxell taught a whool at Stringtown, tlie last winter, ' and gave general satisfaction to the paients who employed him, and was quite popular in the neighborhood. The testimony, though sufficient perhaps for holding him to bail, was not such as to convict a man even with a very bad character. New (ioversnent Loan. Tlie bidj for the United States loan of ten millions, were opened on the 9th inst., at the Treasury Department. Awards of five millions were awarded at about fire per cent, premium ; three millions at between four and five, and about two millions at front four and a quarter to four and a half. The principle successful bidders are as follows.: Tbe Bank of Commerce, $1,600,000 ; Marie & Kanx, about $1,000,000 ; Camman k Co S 7 50,000; Uowland & A'pinwall, $400,000; Derd & Co, at 9 J percent, $500,000 ; Chubb & Bros., $-00,000; tbe United States Truit Co., $500,000; Trevor 4 Colgate, $500,000; G. S. Robbins k Son, $2,000,000; Whitehouse, Son k Morrison, $400,000; Cavill, Livingston & Co., $500,000. The aggregate amounts of tbe bids is about $30,000,000. Among the unsuccessful bidders were Messrs. Belmont k Riggs, who offered to take the entire SI 0,000, 000, at a premium of three and 77-100, and Sweeny, Rittenhousc 4 Co., at three per cent, premium. When cold, it will be fit for use. No more is required than to moisten a sponge, and before the horse goe out of the stable let those parts which are the most irritable be smeared over with liquor, viz: between and upon the ears, the neck, the flank, etc. Not only the lady or gentleman who rides out for pleasure will derite great benefit from the leaves thus prepare but the coachman, the wagoner,. and all others who use hones during the hot month?. g3gr We are indebted to the steamer Wood'o.-d, for New Orleans papers of Friday CTeniug last. faT The son of Lady Bulwer publishes a card in the English papers to the effect that his father and mother through Lis inttrccswon, have settled their little difficulties.
