An Island Afloat. "We learn from the Wayno Democratic JYe that, a fevr days since, a large object was seen oa Lake Ontario, in a north Westert direction from Pultceyrille, gently floating to the eastward. It excited considerable curiosity, as it appeared tinlike . anything ever seen on the Lake before. As all had a desire to know more about it, several young men, in boats, started in pursuit, and after a steady pull with oars, it was at list overhauled some five miles from shore. It was 6teadily wending its way down the lake, impelled by the current at the rate of about tiree miles an hour, and when overt tea presented, to thj astonishment of the beholders, a no less novel spectacle than an island covered with luxuriant vegetation! It wa3 about five rods in length, and nearly of equal breadth; and had probably been farmed in some quiet nook of a river or bay upon some timber or brush that had become stationary upon the surface of the water till an admixture of earthly and vegetable matter had accumulated sufficient to nourish vegetation such as is peculiar to swampy locations. These had grown and fallen through a long succession of years, until the whole had become matted together by root3 and fibres so as to give the whole mass a firmness and tenacity sufficient to resist the waves, and a specific gravity that enabled it to float. The late rain3 increasing the volume of water where it formed elevated it from its bed, broke it from its mooring?, and sent it off on a voyage of discovery. The whole island wa3 covered with such plants a3 are seen about Irondequoit Bay, and present just such an appearance. It was sufficiently firm to bear np a man as Dr. BearcUley stepped on shore, and took possession in behalf of Uncle Sam. The island was not wholly uninhabited, a3 several small birds were 6ecn. The highest points on the island were about five feet above the surface of the water, and the plants stand firm and erect, vigorous and healthful. IIoiisE3. It is estimated that there are 50,000 horse3 in the State of Massachusetts, 221,000 in the New England States, 4,500,0 00 in the United States. Ohio stands foremost in the number of horse3, New York next, Pensyivania next, Kentucky next, and Minnesota last of all. Estimating the horses of Massachusetts at $75 per bead, their value will be $3,750,000, and all the horses in the United States at the same rate, would make a value of 337,500,000, or more than three times the whole cotton and woolen manufacturing capital of the Union. The horse interest is a moät important one to the wealth and prosperity of the States.
A new work by Dickens is in preparation. The subject has been a favorite one with him for twenty years, but he has only lately commenced to yo-k out his original idea. The work is to be an onslaught upon "respectability" in other words, upon the conventionalities of society. Place of "Worship. Pr. Moro was the tret man to e.tabli-h the f.ict that all di eases arLe from IMPURITY OF THE BLOOD that our strength, health and lif depended upon thU viUl fluid. A. J. WHITE & CO. 50 Leonard Street, New York. PR. MORSE, the inventor of Morse's Indian Root Pills, has spent the greater part of hi life in traveling, having viited Eorot-e, Aia anl Africa as well as North America has pent three years among tho Indiana of our Western country it was in this way that the Indian Rot-t Pills were first discovered.- Dr. Morio was the ftrwt man to establish the fact that all diae ariw from IMPURITY OF THE DLO0D that our etrength, health and life depended upon thU vital fluid. When the various passages become clogged, and do not act in perfect harmony with the different functions of the body, the blood los. its action, becomes thick, corrupted and diseased, thus causing all pains, sickness and dii tress cf every name; our strength is exhausted, our health we are deprived of, and if nature is not assisted in throwing oil the stagnant humors, the bload w ill bvo:uo rhoked and ceado to act, and thus our light of lifo w ill be forever blown t ut. How important tlx n, that we should keep the various parages of the body free and open. And how ple:Mnt to uu that we have it in our power to put a mdidne in your reach, namely, Morse's Indiau Rwt Pill, manufactured t. 'jm plants and roots which grow around the mountainous cliüs ia naturo's garden, for the health and recovery of diseased -man. One of tho roots from which these yllln are in.vlo U a sodoriflc, which opens the pore of the kkin, and aitf nature in throwing out the finer parts of the corruption within. Tho second 1 a plant which is an expectorant, that opens and unrlot tho humeri from the lung, by copious spilling. The third is a diuretic, which gives ea.c and dou!lc strength to the kidneys; thus encouraged they draur largo amounts of Impurity from the blood, which U then thrown out bountifully by the urinary wafer passage, and which could not have been discharged in any tln r way. The fourth U a cathartic, and ncvoU' panic tho vther properties tf tiie pills whilo enga;d in purlTying the blood; the coarser particlua which cannot paes by the other outlet, are thin taken up and conveyed oJ iu great quantitiei by thy bowel. From the above, it is shown that lr. Morse' Indian Root Pills not only enter the utoinach, but become unit'.-ti w ith the Mood, for they find way to every part, and completely rout out and cloan.- the system f diu all impurity, and the life of the body which is the blood, heroines perfectly healthy; consequently ail sickness and pain are diivcu from tho system, hr they ennnot remain w hm the body bc-com-so pure and clear. The r-a-jon why jeop!o aro s rlistnused when sick, aud why so many die, is t--auc they do not get a medicine which will pass to tho afflicted parts, and which will open th natural passages fur the disease to bo ca.-t out, lu iue a larg quantity o food and other matter is lodged, and tho stomach and intestines are literally overflowing with the corrupted inasi, tUuj iindTin disiirrei'aMe fermentations rouHtanlly mixing with tho Mood, which throws the corrupted matter through every vein and nrt.-ry, until lifn U tkvn from the body by diseii.e. Pr. Yes, thouaauds who have leeu racked or tormented with sic!cn-3S. puin and anguish, aud wluwe fe:Me frames have t-een si'orvhed by the burning elements of raging fever, and who have b..vn brought us it were, within a step cf the silent grave, now t.ind ready to testify Hint they would have Ix-en numbered with the dead, had it nt been fr this great au 1 wonderful medicine, Pr.
