From the Wheeling Ittelliyvncmr, July 'MiM. Strauge but True Story A great many strange things happen, and entirely escape public attention, rhich if raa.de known, would induce more than a passing remark. For & long time we hare heard nothing stranger and truer than the story we are about to relate. When Thomas Galloway was twenty-four years of age, he married a widow lady of about the same age, ia a Tillage away down in the State of Vermont. The lady had a daughter, Mary, by her first huibnud, who, at the time of her second marriage, wa3 two years of age. Ju3t one year after Galloway's marriage, his wife died. Little Mary was sent to lire with a family of the name of Plunkelt, in a neighboring village, and Galloway left upon a whaling or some other expedition. He cruised the wido world and the wide searf over, wandering from place toil ice, and finally settled in Dearborn county, Indiana, twonty years luring elapsed since the death of his wife. He afterwards thought of visiting his old Vermont home, but he had hsarl from good report that his only brother, John, had taken his departure, and that little Mary had jrrown up to womanhood, marr:i and migrated ho could not ascertain where. Having no other ties or affections to lrnw him to the place, he scarcely ever gave it a paVmg thought. Shortly after settling in Lis new Indiana Lorn he bocr.ra acquainted with a young widow, and notwithstanding the disparity in their n-es he married her. Home three weeks after this marriage, he discovered by his wife's account of her early life, that she w as no other than his own step child Mary. She had married five years before, and her biL-band, James Lachlar, met with a. violent death in a clearing two years afterwards. About three years after Galloway's second marriage, ho happened one day to Ijo in Lawrencebunr, on the Ohio river, six miles from his residence, when man by the name of Galloway wa3 drowned off a steamer at the wharf. The body was recovered in Galloway's pivscti t, aad from the nppearancc of tue features itad the corresponding name, he begin to entertain a vague idea that it might bo his only brother, John. Information gained from the Captain of the boat, strengthened the suspicion lie hal formed, and a.cert iining that the naibrtnnate man hfl a f.irnüy in the vicinity, and at the tinn of Iii- death was on his way to the west to enter land, Galloway resolved to return with the Captain and find out the truth, lie did so, and found his suspicions coirect. His brother had left a tract of land, a large family of children, for the meat part trirls, and a wife ia ill health. After consulting with his diseased brother's wife, he concluded to take charge of the farm. Accordingly he went back to Indiana, sold tiis cifects there, and in company with bis young wife, returned ami has been living within six miles of this city fur a length of time, now going ou tea years. The story is literally true, with the exception of the names of the principal characters, which we are fjrbiddea to publish. Places of Worship.
