E5ult is reported from Califuruia that üteptoe's troops were very careful of their lives in battle with the Indian, and after they were beaten, made a wonderful retreat, and ran ninety miles from the pcenc of ac tion before Intuiting.-- The lucky escape dues credit to the fleetness and bottom of California horse flesh. But little is being done in shipping. The Mississippi river at Mcmplus has fallen fifteen feet from the highest point of the flood, and is goirfg down rapidly. We learn that the Meteor has made her last trip in the present trade and that she will be transferred back to the Missouri river. Tbe reason for this change is the dullness of business and scarcity of freight on the Ohio. The Meteor was built purpose ly for the Missouri river trade, and doubtless feels more at home there than anywhere ele.
