7771 R. MORSES MJHMJJ BOOT UP PILL CAUTION. MerciuuiU and Tralers will ba on their guard and not be imposed npon by a Counterfit of Morse's Indian Root . i i . a a ft - t a as n t ili, signeu a. w. wah. au genuine Koot Pills have the name and signature of A. J. WHITE A CO., on each box. . . DR. MORSE, the inventor of Horm'$ Imti Root PiVy has spent the greater part of his life in travelling, having visited Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as North America, and has spent three years among the Indians of our Western country, and it was in this way that the Indian Root Pills were first discovered. Dr. Morse was the first man to eetab i h the f tct that all diseases arwe from IMPURITY OF THE BLOOD that our atrength, health and lite depended npon this vital fluid. A. J. WHITE A CO. 60 Leonard Street, New York. . PR. MORSE, the Inventor of MorVs Indian Root Pills, has spent the greater part of his life in traveling, having visited Luroiie, Asia and Africa as well as North America has spent three years among the Indiana of our Western country it was in this wsy that the IndUn Root Pills were first discovered. Dr. Mors was the first man to establish tSe fact that aU disease arise from IMPURITY OF THK BLOOD that our strength, health and life depended upon this vital fluid. . When the various pascpagos become clogged, and do not act in perfect harmony with the different function of the body, the blood lose its action. b emnes thick, corrupted' and 'diseased, thus caoeiog all pains, skkness and distress of every name; our atrength is exhausted, our health we are deprived of, and if nature is not aaited in throwing off the stagnant humors, the blood will become choked and cease to act, and thus our light of life will be forever blown out. How important then, that we should keep the various pawiaga of the body free and open. , And how pleaxant to us that we hare it In onr power to pot a medicine in your reach, namely, Morse's Indian Root Pit s, manufactured from plants and roots which grow around the mountainous cliffs In nature's garden, for the health and recovery of diseased man. One of the roots from which these pills are made U a sodorifie, which opens the pore) of the skin, and assists nature in throwing out the finer parts of the corruption within. The second is a pUnt which is an expectorant, that opens and unclogs the humors from the lungs by copious spitting. The third is a diuretic, which gives ease and double strength to the kidneys; thus encouraged they draw Urge amounts of impurity from the blood, which is then thrown out bountifully by the urinary water passage, and which could not have been discharged in any other way. The fourth U a cathartic, and accompanies the other properties of the pills while engaged in purifying the blood; the coarser particles which cannot pass by the other outlets, are thus Ukea np and conveyed off in great quantities by the bowels. From the above, it is shown that Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills not only enter the stomach, but become united with the blood, for they find way to every part, and completely rout out and cleanse the syttem from all Impurity, and the life of the body which U the blood, becomes perfectly healthy; consequently all sickness and pain are driven from tb system, for they cannot remain when the body becomes ao pure and clear. -' - The reasoa why people are so distressed whien sick, and why so many die, ia because they do not get a medicine which will para to the afflicted ports, and which will open the natural passages for the diseaso to be cast out, hence a large quantity of food and other matter is lodged, and the stomach and intestines are literally overflowing with the corrupted mass, thus undergoing dinngreeable fermentations, constantly mixing with tho blood, which throws the corrupted matter through errry vein and artery, until lifo is taken from the body by disease. Dr. Morse's Pills have addod to themselves victory upon victory, by restoring millions of the sk'k to blooming health and happiness. Yes, thousands who have been racked or tormented with eicknes, pain and angnih, and whoso fteble frame have been scorched by the burning element of raging fever, and w ho have been brought as it were, within a step of the silent grave, now stand ready to testify that they would have been numbered with the dead, hod it Dot been for this great and won derful medicine. Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pill. After one or two doses bad been taken, they were astonished and absolutely surprised, in witnessing their surprising effects. Not only do they give immediate ease and strength, and take away all sickness, pain and anguish, but tltey at ones go to work at the foundation of the disease, which is tho blood. Therefore, it will be shown, especially by those who use these PI1U, that they will so cleanse snd purify that disease that deadly enemy will Like its flight, and fhe flush of youth and l-oanty will again return, and the prospect of a long and happy life) will cberirih and brighten your day. A Asylum for Jxkbrxates. Anions the practical and most useful charities of the day, is the project of providing asylums fur habitual drunkards. With ' all the discussion we hare had for twenty years on the subject of intemperance, and reform of the slaves to the ; vic, he case of the drunkard seems never to have been properly understood and, treated. The" excessive drinking of liquor brings on a physical, and finally a mental derangement, that renders Its victim as incapable and irresponsible, as one whose mental and moral powers have been impaired by . other disease, and he is entitled to as much charitable consideration, and should receive ' tho same treatment as like sufferers from other causes. He needs to be led away from temptation to have his physical health restored, and his mental and moral powers re-eeated in their empira over the grosser passions. "The drunkard is in truth a sick and insane being, in need of nursing care and medical aid- If the State cannot arrest the traffic that brings thii misery upon the weak and tempted members of society, there is no question of its duty or of it powers to create an aylum for the cure or protection of those who may fall its unfortunate victims." The State can make no discrimination in its charities with those, whose misfortunes are the consequences of their own sins, or those who suffer by the act of Providence, . An asylum for inebriates would restore more useful men to society, save more individuals from the lowest of human degradations, and diffuse more joy to afflicted families than all our other State charities. The subject has long been discussed in New York, and efforts have been made to awaken the attention of the State and Legislature to the subject. A few benevolent individuals have at last determined to erect such an institution, by private means, to be located at Binghampton. ; The citizens of that place hare donated 232 acres of land, valued at $50,000, situated a little outside of the town, on a plateau elevated 252 feet above the rivers, and commanding beautiful views of the valleys of the Chenango and Susquehanna river?, for more than 20 miles. Here amid noble scenery, invigorating air with kind nursing, gentle discipline, and affectionate admonitions, the poor, weak, outcast inebriate, may find physical health, mental strength, and moral power to withstand the tempter and recover hU self control, and finally regain his manhood. ' There is no charitable enterprise that gives so many hopes of great and happy results. ' Fifty thousand dollars beside the land has been subscribed, and the foundations of the buildings are already begun. Among the contributors there are eight hundred physician, four hundred clergymen, ninety judgrs, and ninety editors, the President of the United States and his Cabinet officers, Justices McLean, Gricr and Wayne, Martiu Van Buren, and other distinguished gentle men. The trustees are sixty in number, and arc men of the highest character as individuals and men of business. CSF It is stated in the New York Times, that Commodore Yandcrbilt has outwitted the Frenchman Billy, and secured the exclusive transfer to himself, in perpetuity of the Nicaragua Transit . Route. His agents arrived in New York last week, with a deed of concession dated the 8th of May last which grants to Cornelius Vanderbilt, Horace F. Clark, and their associates, the exclusive right of conveying passengers across the Isthmus of Nicaragua by - the Lake Nicaragua and the river San Juan. An act of Incorporation makes the grantees a perpetual company, with power to create aad issue stock, and transfer or sell the same. It exempts them and their property from all taxation and Government dues, and places them on the footing of citizenship, with the right to sue and defend in all the Courts of the Republic. It further gives them the right to elect a President and Directors, and to make such by-laws, rules and regulations as may be necessary for the international management of the company's affairs. ' It is said the specie, 100,000, in amount, has already been shipped on a special steamer, to Gray town, to pay for the grant, and agents hare gone out to take possession of the route and property, and the line will be opened at once. If these statements be true of which there is no doubt, the route is secured . under American control, and is safe from foreign interference. : . - : Government Receipt suid) Kapernd,'The current fiscal year of the Government cspirei on the 30th Inst. PaoriTS or Hotel Keitisg. The United States Hotel Directory, a paper devoted to matters relating to hotels and their management, says . '. - - . The belief that all our first class hotels are "making money hand Over fist,' is one of the popular delusions of . the day. The successful establishments, in a pecuniary point of view are the exceptions, not the rule. As a general thing, the proprietors of the second, third and even fourth-rate hotels . oftener , retire rich than the proprietors of the "New York," the ' 44 Astor," the 44 Metropolitans," Jjc, ic '. And the reason is obvious. The expense of keeping up one of these first' class establishments is cnormora. There is no end to the painting, papering, allering, re-furnishing, Jcc, necessary to keep snch a palace aj the "St. Nicholas," for instance, in "apple-pie order." And then, too, such houses as we hare named are under the most extravagant rents. They must be located on the most costly lots, built in the most magnificent style, and furnished in the most . sumptuous manner. They ,mu.t be "officered"- and u manned at a higher rate of wages :'thdh the inferior hotels; and of course, the provisions for the table must be in proportion. Literally, the best the market affords, must daily regale their guests, . regardless of cost. The clerks, the stewards, the cooks, the house-keepers, must all have " fat salaries," and when salmon is liberally provided at seTenty-fire cents a pound, and all other luxuries in proportion, there is . but a small margin left from the per diein for board, usually paid for living and luxuriating in a first class hotel; The expenses of repairs to bouse and furniture, besides all that is done by the landlord and what is charged to servants and guests for breaking, is more than S25,000 per annum in the 44 St. Nicholas," and the "New York," in New York. In all hotels servants are charged with all tby, break
accidentally or unavoidably. The sales of wines at the fashionable hotels in New York, is about $100 per day. This gives an aggregate of $36,500 a year, one half oj which, at least, is profit. The bars, also, of euch magnificant establishments as the " St. Nicholas," contribute largely to make up the deficits of other departments. A single cask of liquor dispensed in shilling glasses yields a very handsome sum. Kansas. The proceedings of Gov. Denver in the settlement of affairs at Fort Scott, has given entire satisfitction to the people of the locality. After investigating past occurrences, he did . not arrest or .- censure Capt. Montgomery, to whose charge so many outrages have been laid. It was shown be had acted with a large majority of the people, on the defensive. Gov. Denver ap pointed a number of reputable citizens with sufficient military force, to secure the inhabitants from 'further - molestation from the band of plunderers that have, for too long a period, under Hamilton and other noted ruffians, been the terror of unoffending citizens. So clearly satisfied was the Governor on bis visit and inquiry, .that he made short work and acted with promptness. In the trial of Lane, for the murder of Jenkins, the testimony has been very contradictory, satisfying every one that gross perjury and subornation had been committed. Public opinion was strong against Lane, notwitstanding his acquittal. , JaS'-Mrs. Agatha Millandon, widow of the son of Phillippc Millandon, one of the oldest and wealthiest French Creole families in New Orleans, has sued her father-in-law for libel, laying her damages at $100,000. Two of her children were taken suddenly and mysteriously ill, and one died. " The grand parents became suspicious that the children were poisoned, to secure the large estate to which they were entitled, to the mother. And the old folks were bold enough to declare their suspicions; hence the suit. There appears to have been no warrant for the libelous charge, and the rich old grand father will have his pockets depleted by the verdict of a jury. . ' . - ' J5r By the hist advices from Oregon, it appears that the excitement caused by the discovery of gold, on Frazer's rirer, in the British possessions, still continued; and that 3,000 or 4,000 miners had gone from California and Oregon, to the territory. The British Governor of Yancover's Island, had issued a proclamation, forbidding all vessels entering the river or trading upon the coast; and all jtersons from mining, without first procuring a licence from the Hudson Bay Company, for which a round tax was levied. It was thought the miners would pay but little regard to the Governor, or his proclamation, for they are the "powers that be " at present in the territory. ;.- m tST"The Memphis people have been highly lauded for their noble generosity to the sufferers on board the steamer Pennsylvania; but it appears that there were individuals so mean and selfish in ' their conduct towards some of the victims, as to impair the credit which the city hod acquired by the generosity and benevolence of its citizens generally. In one case, two widows, the mother and aunt of a young man who was scalded, and died after reaching Memphis, were robbed of $500, which composed nearly all their means, by the extortionate charges of physicians, landlords and nurses. ggf It is proposed to treat the people of Boston to cool drinks, during the hot weath er," by throwing a few tons of ice, every morning, into the reservoir of the water works, from which poor and rich draw their supplies. This would be a blessing in which all would share. " , i . " Joy The Supreme Court of the State, adiournei lart work, to racrt again in August-
