TUESDAY MOCNINO ....V-1. 31 AY". 15 Arkansas. There is no richer State in the Union thin Arkansas, in both mineral and - agricultural wealth: . She lias been ucder tho rule ' of selfish politi ciana,.and her legislation. has been impoli; tic snd corrupt. Xvil counsels and bad law have brought thi-worst elements cf her society to the surface; . and girpn the State an ill repute abroad. ' The influ ences of tho moral condition of society on tho value of property has been strikinglj exhibited in her" past. condition. . Th better class of emigrants ha7 tToideJ hef border?, and her territory has remain ed the most neglected portion of the Union. Her va.t mineral wealth u wholly undsvelopeJ, and her Unds haTe been lower, comparatively, than in anj of tho adjoining States. A,, chargo i, however, takin place, and her long neglected advantages aro now attracting a large tide of immigration into all'paits of the State. A letter froov Little Kock says the accessions to her population this year will be in a larger per: cent., than that acquired by any Southwestern State. The emigrants are from Tennessee and the old slave States, and large numbers who had gone to Texas, . have returned to settle in Arkansas. ' There are large tracts of U. S. lands still subject to entry at a bit an aero. The State La about to offer large bodies of land for salo on her own account. Over one million acres of fine cotton lands, belonging to the State, will soon be offered for sale at prices within the reach of all seventy five cents per acre, if within six miles o a navigable fctream, or fifty cents for all other. The?o lands will generally produce one thousand pounds of seed cotton to the acre. . These sales will afford an admirable chance for the- operations of land speculators. QCJT We learn that Col. Urew, who was recently appointed Indian agent for the Chippcwas, to reside at Crow Wing, has been removed to Lake City, at the Northwest extremity of Lake Superior, and made ascnt of a small section of 4T, r.krt it, 'I s w -a vaivsiiiQ a a tat 1 IVI.IIl I Th Colon,! hnrl nimW nfprn.l nnAn . , -,-,,. , iu u.uar-u. me uuues unuer-. ins commission, wnen he is supercedea by A man of more powerful political inter csts, at Washington, and is transferred to a more remote and less -eliffibla co g K sition. Put no trust in . demagogues or princes; and above all, a politician must not, under any temptationsof personal aggrandizement, botny the people, and lose his hold upon their confidence and support. The politician's strength is only in his populari ty with the voters.
