Um Kaasas ttm Passed. Ijr our Telegraph despatches, it will be seen that English's - Kansas swindle was consummated in both houses -of Congress last evening. New will begin apolitical agitation more exrited than has been known In the present generation. ' ; T The Prtotlnc of Oar Law la üran. Tho calm assurance-. of the following editorial from the Volksbote is amusing. if not alarming. The proprietor of that paper is a standing candidate for office both by Exccutir appointment and elec tion by the people. In it our natife language is ridiculed, and w are told, that as the Germans are the majority, we must learn Dutch to get a knowledge rf our own laws. We know that no respectable number of Germans respond to such sentiments or countenance such as sumptions. Tney are all anxious to be come Americans inmind, feeling, language and baUt, and in this community their desire to assimulate, was man Tested in their hearty co opperation with natire citizens in the maintainance or our schools, the nurseries of American feel ing and education, where the children of all classes and nationalities are amalga mated: The fallo'mir was in the issue of tho Yolkabote of April 34th: Tba question whether our City Charter and ordinance shall be printed in English only, or whether they ahull also be printed in tLe Oer man language, should be looked at from more than one side. v e are not at ai inclined, in common with the author of Tea terday's communication, to dispute with the opponents of llenticr'i Kesolu tion upon the eround. cnlr, that a iact or knowledge o ' the English language would disable the German population to fully comply with, and live up to the law. It in true, we cannot de ny that there are Germane amonz us who are not in poeaion of the English language but they are only a amall minority, and even those would, alter the publication or the or dinanccs, at least comply with them as closo y aa they de to-day. Nevertheless, it is, and remains a truth that every law, in all cases, should bo so printed aa to he understood by everybody .and they . should be very weighty reason, which would induce tee Council to communicate the city erdinances only iu that language which . the smallest number of citizens call their own. But what have the friends ot such a measure argued! The preservation of the purity of the English Language! That deserve, approbation! A pity, only, that every "one knows that the monster, called the English language, neither in consequence of its construction, nor in consequence ofita etymology, nor for any ether quality it possesses, can bo justified in demands, which, without bad consequences, cannot be granted. The question of expenses haa also been discussed, but we, for ourselves, can't tee how that should have a decisive bearing upon the matter. If the publication in both languages comes too Ligh, very well, than give tho German the preference, because a majority of tlie inhabi tants are Germans. Should that not be done, why then surely there can be means and wsya found, by which those speaking both German and English can be satisfied without bringing about the bankruptcy of the city. But say others, if the printing in German is ordered, you would, in the end, also have to furnish Irencb, Spanish and Italian translation. 'When Eransville shall have from ,- 000 to 8 ,000 French inhabitants then they will have aa xnueh right as the Germans have to-day,aad there should be no obstructions offered to grant them what is their due. KsLioiots Ixtillioixce. We learn tl.at the Her. Mr. Iloamer preaches his last sermon to the Unitarian Society in this city, on Sundsj next. His residence was d tinned at first, to be only for the winter,' and La haa already out-staid tha time ha proposed to spend with the congregation that invited him Lr. He ratsrea, we enderstaad, to If arTari Uaiversity to resume his stndies Cora ae.isan, to petftet himself for the f acred daties of Lis profession. Ilia departure will be regrtttad by thotie who havs become acuaiatd with hia many eisellent qaalitica of bead and heart, and by those who hare listened to his discourses filled with noblo sentiments of tha duty and dignity of man. Young, confident, and feeling tha strength of hia awn genius, it has seemed to bim aa if man could control hia own destiny, and detcrroino his awn condition and frame hia own character by tha power of bia will. TLe disappointmenta and tho aad vicissitodes of life will make bim in future years less self-reliant, and inculcate a deeper sense of dependence cn an over-ruling power in all that effects ns. The experiences of life will deepen Iiis religious sentiments and malte bim less philosophical and rational in bis faith. Hi cr tors If any are those of his years; with bis natural endowments and his habits of thorough mental discir line Jhe will, we doubt not, become eminent in the pulpit. We learn that a congregation of tbose known by the name of CUriitiam, baa been formed in this city, 'and will hare regula. preaching at one of tha Halls for the futurer They take tho bibla, without note or comment, as tha guide of their faith and conduct, and have, we believe, no written fonnul creed. 3 currently reported that Gor. Walker has yielded to the . influences of the Kxeculiro, and now approves of the subterfuge of English. It is said he ha large , landed interests which will bo improved by the. railroad grants of land,' which are offered as .the bribe for the acceptance of the Lecompton Constitution. But we have an abiding confidence thai the Governor will confound the authors of the present libel, as he did those who made the former charges of treachery against him. 57" One good result of the present raligloua awakening is said to be the restitution of some ill-gotten wealth.
