He is second only to (Jongh In hi power to enchain tho attention and excite tho feelings of bis audience. J7"Thc storm last night deprived Miss Shaw of large audience, but it detracted not h whit from the ppirit and power of her admirable pcrfonnance. The character of Kvaduc is peculiarly fitted to develops the full strength cf her power!, and iu her personation of it, ahe leaves bnt little of one's conception of it unsatisfied. Mr. Carroll's J.odovieo was admirably sustained. The piece, we trust will be repeated on a more propitious night. Dorell & Coxtxgtos have received the Hay" number of Dickon's Household Word.-. Wc are sorry to hear that this valuable periodical has not so large a list of subscribers in this city as its sterling merits ought to have secured for it. Three dollars cannot be better invested for a household than to subscribe it for th'S excellent monthly. fjrOur midnight cotppositor is so fascinated with our fur visitor that he is for establishing Miss "Dora permanently amongst us." This we should be happy to hare him accomplish; but as that is we presume an impossibility, the next best thing is to make "the Drama" a permanent establishment of the city, so as to secure her presence as long and frequently, as the claims of others will allow. Frank Leslie's Family Magazine, for May, has been received by Messrs. Pobell & Conyngton, and is the richest number yet issued of that cheap and popular magazine. It contains a colored plate of a Gipscy camp, and a beautiful colored fashion plate, with nearly one hundred fine wood cuts. This number has, beside, over a hundred pages of in tcresting letter prcs3, all of which is given to the purchaser for 2.1 cents. J. II. Cochran, the traveling agent of the Kvansville & Crawfordsville railroad, and nU J. W. Cock rum, as we had it yesterday, will visit Cairo, Memphis, Nashville and tho Western districts of Tennessee and Kentucky, to make known the advantages to Kastern travel ers from those districts, in taking the cars at this point, instead of going on to Lousr . a lsviue. lie win attend to any business for our citizens on his line of travel that may be entrusted to him. Any commis sions given to him will be faithfully at (ended to. Lecomptox and the Administration. A letter from Washington says: "The Administration despairs of being able to effect any accommodation between the two Houses, and abandons all hopes of compromise from the Conference. The expressions of public sentiment, which have reached here since English's movement, have admonished the hesitating of the fate that is reserved for them, if the least sign of defection should bo exhibit ed, and they are now anxious to emphasize, by conclusive votes, such declarations as will remove all cause of doubt or distrust." OCrThe notorious Col. Titus is again in Kansas, and made his presence known by a dastardly assault upon Gen. Tomeroy as the latter was leaving the court room in Kansas city, on the 16ih inst. The ruffian struck his victim with a club knocking him down and then beat him most ruthlessly. The account says, 'of all the persons who witnessed this piece of ruffianism, not one elTered to interfere in behalf of the victim, but stood by listlessly and unconcerned, as though Titus was performing a wholesome duty."
