EVANSVILLE, IND. -MISATURDAY MORXIXUt , AFK1L 10 An Active Business. The operations of oiir banks afford the best indication of the activity of the busU nes3 of the eocrmunity. We learn thai the circulation of the Branch of the State Bank in this city has been up to its fall limit for inoro than six weeks, and in spite of large redemptions, it is constantly pressing upon the restrictions of the charter. Since the first of Jan in uary, the Branch--with only $100,000 paid caDital has made loans to the amount of $212,000; the re -payments of loans during the same period were $230,000. making only an increase of abont $12,000 between the aggregate loans in January and in April, though it had let r.nt in fW tt'ma twice and & half, the . l - r l rli. all nt lh amount oi lia capiw. v " aid of shipments - f miövvu--" . - 1 to New Orleans and Xew York, and consisted of 30 and 60 day bills. The bank has, beside, dealt very largely in sight exchange on New York and New Orleans. The amount of sight exchange sold on New York durinz the month of March of was about 3135,000. The amount I .l new loans during that month exceeded - I $00,000. These figures exhibit a very large and active business for so small a capital. A capital that is turned over so often, with profits on every operation, must be laying up funds for good dividends. They show good management the cd vantages of the location for pro fitable banking business and prove that ... . .. . I we ought to have more banking capital at this point. We are glad to learn that the Branch will soon offer an additional $100,000 of her stock to capitalists, and by next autumn bo prepared to grant increased facilities to the trade of the place. The mode of eon ducting the execution was evidently a violation of the law, which should attract the attention of public authority and be visited by the strongest expressions of public condemnation .
