Five bodies wer found in one room, regularly arranged, burned with their clothes on Of one of thorn, only tho head wna burn od, and that waa nearly severed from the body, and the clothes were much marked with blood. This body was identified as that of Ephraim Doane, who came to the hotel on the previous night, having it wss said 14,000 in a belt on his person. There was now no belt nor money
on . his person. He had retired to rest alone in another room. ' Of the other bodies certain ones were identified and known to have occupied other rooms.. Doane had ar rived in the city on Friday evening, and taken a room at the City Hotel. . From thence, Sanders Taylor, or Bandera alia$ Taylor, had brought him, paying carriage hire and treating freely, to the Pacific house. Tay's room waa number 15, Doane s was number 14, on the second floor' of tho building. Every, person on the second floor esc a pod but two, Lord and . Doane. Doane room was bounded by two hills, the dining room and Taylor's room. It was near to two entrances from Seventh street. Why dkl not Doanego out, wnen others, much more remote from the doors and halls. twased his door and left safely! At A. Taylor was root at Walnut and Seventh streets. At 2 a. if. he appeared to have been at Ganter's. At about the time of the alarm of fire, he came to the Townsley house, without boots on.
