A FIGHT ON THE FLOOR or THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE . KANSAS FRAUD. The following disgraceful scene preceded the general melee and f ght, described below: At half past 5 o'clock, the Houso refused to adjourn by 21 majority. Not half the mem bers occupied tlteir seat. A variety of motions to excuse tho Democrat from votinjf, to send for adagtierreotypUttotake a view of tho scene, &c, were declared out of order. Various questions, principally of adjournment, were decided negatively by yeaa and nays. Several clerks broke down in calling the Toll, and inexperienced subordinates were dispatched to their relief. -Member were continually going out and coming in from lunch, some eating at their desk. 1 Come," said one, "let' adjourn. What's tfce use of co'.tinuingthU farceP . Others replied: "I'll brinff my bed and stay here till morning, before I'll give way to the. Lecomptonitea." "A voice "Good for you." 7 o'clock Both parties are still determinedly holding out. Mr. Gile was excused from Totiug. Mr. Phillips moved to reconsider and lay cn tho table. Tellers were ordered, but the opposition relumed to veto. Mr. Keitt demanded that the vote should bo taken, if there wa a quorum present. Tho Speaker decided that a quorum was not needed on a question of yeas and nays. Thiy decision waA appealed from, and the yeaa aud nays called for, which was declared oat of order, as the former appeal was pending. Several members attempted to speak, bet were called to order. Washinotox, Feb 6 if House was in session all night. At half past ix this morning, Quitman moved that the House adjourn till Monday, when tho debate on tho Kansas Message hall be resunie.1, and the propositions t-hall be taken without further delay; unanimously consented to, and the House adjourned till .Monday, wiicntue subject win coma upas special order. A Fight on the Floor f the House. Washing ton, Feb 6 H Just before two o'clock this morning, the IIohmj was thrown into a violent excitement, and a fearful scene of confusion. It appears that while Mr. Grow, of Pennsylvania was walking down tho aiIe on the Democratic aide of the Hall. Mr. Keittof South Carolina, a friend approached him and a slight sqnab- . bio ensued, and Keitt struck Grew. The ptrtiea were separate J bv their friend. iny excnnged word! in an excited and menacinj manner when Keitt aga'n dealt Grow a b!ow. The latter knocked him down. Crowds of their respective friends rushed to the rcscne; the various members on each side engaged in the fl ght. In the area fronting the clerk's desk, Washburne of Illinois was conspicuous among the Republican dealing heivy blows. The Speaker loudly called for , order, and called oi the Serjeant-at-Arms to interfere. That functionary carrying his mace of office, together with his assistants proceeded to the scene, and crowded into thi thickest of tho fight, in which, at leant a dozen members wero engasred. Some minutes elapsed before tho truly fearful contest was quieted. Tho members having reluctantly returned to their seats, there was a dead calm in comparison with tho scene jest enacted. Quitman moved that they now adjourn and tako tho question of reference of the Menage of tho President on Kansas affairs on Monday. Emphatic and general responses wciemade from the Republican side, of No! No! Confusion here broke out afresh, when the Speaker said he would direct the Scrgcant-at-Arnu to put under arrest thoe who d'sre iren carded tho dignity of the House. Campbell of Ohio sail ho foresaw disa erecable feelings would result from the exciting questions connected with Kansas, lie was called to order by Mr. Barksdale. Campbell said he wished tho gentleman from Mississippi to know that there was present a member of Congress who was witness to tho difficulty in tho House, between Grow and Keitt who gives tho following particulars: Grow objected to Quitman making any remarks. Keitt aid "If you are going iuto the subject, return to your own side of tho House." Grow responded that this was a free liall, and every man had a right to bo where he pleases. Keitt came up to Grow and said he wanted to know what he meant by such an answer as that. Grow replied that he meant just what ho , said -that this was a free Hall, and that a man has a right tobe where ho pleases. Keitt, taking Grow by the throat, said: 41I will show you. You know you are a damned lilac k Republican puppy .w Grow knocked his hand up, saying, "I hall occupy such a placo in tho Hall a I please, and no nigger driver can crack his whip over mo." Keitt then again grabbod Grow by the th ttt' "nd Crow knocked him down. Tho light took place at twenty-rainute to two o'clock this morning. Washington, Feb. 6 k.
