Mooke, Esq., President of the iIadion Branch of the Bank of the State, died on Thursday night, ot a bilious attack after a very short illness. Mr. Moore had been connected with the State Bank lor the last fifteen years, and enjoyed a high reputa tion as a financial manager. He wa a man of good abilities, fine attainments, and most genial manner, and posscssd in an eminent degre those sterling qualities which go to ma!;o up the true character. Ha was exten sively known throughout tho State, and his death will bo deplored not alone by his fam ily and friends at home, but will be felt as a public loss. Thi well known scent is imported fiom China, Bengal, and Russia. It has a bitterish and somewhat acid taste, and in color reseubles dried blood. It is obtained from the tuti1c deer, and possesses a most penetrating and diffusive odor, rather agrectblewhen freble, but decidedly offe nsive when concentrated. So diffusive is its power that a lew grains will scent a room for years, and it never twenis to fade in iu strength. Tonquin musk is tho a;ot esteemed. Pod musk is the natural bigcofitairiingthomu!.k; each one weighs aboct six drachms, having about eight acmplea of pure musk. It is generally more or les adulterated, but this ii easily detected under tho microscope or by analysis. 57An interesting case of crim. tnn. is shortly to coroe off at Decatnr. Illinois.
