The Committee deserve the thanks of their fel-low-citizens for the labor and care they have bestowed upon the subject; and Judge Foster, especially, merits high praise for his well digested Report. The Report was unanimously adopted, and referred to a committee to have it print

their card to the pamphlet, can adTertise their own business, in a permanent form, while making kmwn the advantages of

the city as a market and business point. The spirit manifested by the meeting was cheering, and afforded a strong guarantee that the organization of a Board of Trade is now one of the fixed institutions of the city one that will do much for its commercial advancement and the extension of its manufactures. The

little that has been done shows the influence of association to create and stimulate an active public spirit among business men, without which nothing important for the general interest can be accomplished. The great need of our city has been a unity and concert in action among its active citizens. The Board of Trade promises to infuse a stronger feeling of the community of interests existing at all times among citizens of

The troops have built a number of cabins

for their winter quarters; and Dr. Forney, the Superintendent of Indian Affairs, has erected a large office. It is also contemplated

to build a court house and jail. Gov. Cummings has concluded not to build a house,

but to spend the winter in a tent. Several

stores bad also been erected, and it was contemplated to construct a building for a photographic gallery.

The quarters of the soldiers are said to be

comparatively comfortable, the fine timbers

in which they are encamped affording shelter from the winds, and a good material for building. They are also provided with the Sibley tent, in the centre of which a fire can be built.

(Q'The Brooklyn Coroner has concluded an inquest on the bodies of three of the children who were suffocated at the fire which recently occurred in one of the public schools of that city. Of course, the -verdict was "Nobody to blame." Although the wood-work of the building came in contact with the hot air pipes in several places, yet the builder was not to blame for such carelessness. It was unreasonable to sup-

against Bright, and his little pattelitcs) Our rcmcmbcrance is that Bright has tiJiJged" every important vote, that was ever given in

the be n ate of the United btatcs lor over

twelve years, where ou principles were at stake. And our rcmcmbcrance is also, that he has time and again dc?"rtel his station at Washington, while drawing eight dollars per day, to meddle himself with the affairs of the party at Indianapolis, when his presence was offensive to a largo majority of honest Democrats. At all conventions and all cau

cuscs of the party, Bright must bo there to

dictate to the members or delegate?, and hold tho rod over the head.- of thoo who are disposed to do right and be consistent, and for all this Bright must be endorsed or the party will go to the D 1. Well, if Bright, is to be tho embodiment of future Democracy, why the sooner it goes to tophet tho better it will bo for all hands. -And Fitch too, most bo endorsed, though tho heavens fall, and why? Because ho is the chief of

all of linguts toadies, an l most obedient to the bequests of his roaster. What has Dr. Fitch done that he should need bo endorsed

by the bone and sinew oi Democracy I W by he has read Douglas out of tho ranks. Made a big little speech in Congress, in which ho says iheprt'ple of this country are not capable of sell government, they have'nt sense enough to vote right, in his way ot thinking. Wherefore ho is of tho opinior. that such ass as Dr. Fitch, are aloce intelligent enough to make our constitutions and our laws, without so much as by our leave; Ho is the same Dr. Fitch, who was so ramfant an AbolitioniU that be wrote to one 'omeroyj thtt if elected to Congress, ho would bring in a bill to abolish Slavery in the District of Columbia. For all of which magnificent displays of sense and pure unadulterated Democracy, ho must bo tooted by Buchanans Tost Masters and boot blacks at Indianapolis. We want it distinctly understood that we stand sqnaro and firm upon tho Democratic riatforra, and expect to do our best for tho ticket, but in the mean time, if our salica should trouble us much, we shall have no compunctions of conscience in squirting onr tobacco juice, at plank 2o. 8, of our platform. Third, the platform endorses Willard, who is a mere catspaw of Bright. Had he selected tho committee fairly, tho Kcsolutions would have been an honor to Democracy instead of disgracing us in the eyes of the world. Instead of acting impartially and honorably toward the whole party he selected the whole committee from that class of

coraptou Constitution, therefore paralyz

ing the voice of a majority of tho delegates. In trickery, we Donglas men, are willing to yield the palm of victory, to Bright, Fitch, Hughes and Willard, and their camp followers, but not in devotion to true Democratic principles. Again Willard has persistantly refused to call an extra session of tho Legislature, when he has been implored to do so, by a large majority of the presa and party of the State, that tho honor and inteoritv of the

It will bo difficult to beat this in any country. m fjy-The famou3 Rock Island Bridge

Fao 3i Mexico. The latest advices from Mexico are to tho 21st instant. The country ia in a complete state of anarchy. All the mail stages between Vera Cruz and the Capital have been robbed. Nearly all the town are declaring against Comonfort. The city of Mexieo is in a state of siege. )n the 11th instant, the Zuloaga brigade, which first declared for a Dictatorship, pronounced against CoramonforU It holds the Citadel

and barracks of San Augustin and Santa Domingo. Comonfort has been refused admittance to the last named place. Com

onfort assembled two thousand troops at the place with artillery, and arrested General Zuloaga, but afterwards released him on parole. A portion of the Zuloaga brigade is in favor of Zuolaga for the Presidency, whilo others favor Santa Anna. On the 15th lest. San Augustin was attacked by Conaonfert's troops, bat were repulsed. All foreigners in the coantry had hoisted the flags of their respective countries. Confusion reigna in tho capital. - Bicovxsy o Scxxix Taxascaz The Boston submarine expedition to the Caribbean Sea, to recover the specie on the San

Pedro, have reached the dollars, several hundred in rolls having been obtained. It is proved by official documents that she had on board at the time of the catastrophe $3,000, 000, of which 1,600,000 were in gold- Of this large sum, till now, only about 400,000 have been, recovered, which was obtained

by means of a diving bell, in the mud and outside of the ship. This is tho first success-

payers. 1 ho credit of tho btato will sink, by failure to pay the interest of indebted ness. Tho people must eventually pay three year's taxes in one year, which will bo an outrage and imposition, and will draw loud and long anathemas against tho Governor's obstinacy. The Bankers are reaping a rich harvest f rom the toiling masses, and will continue, with the connivance of ; "Willard, to harrass the peoplo with their worthless rage, until tho people can elect new members next fall. In view of all tbeso grievances, we honestly think Willard deserves no endorsement, at the hands of his party.

Fourth, in their hot hrwao to endorse Buchanan, Bright, Willard and Fitch, the Lecompton committeemen forgot to respond to the almost unanimous voice of Democracy and its press to pass resolves in favor of a tultreawry system, and against tho Hanls. Not a word said cither, about taking back tho Canal, and adding to our already heavy burthens as tax payers, another load of eight or ten millions of dollars, to please a few lordly aristocrats. It is well known that there is but one voice ot tho Democracy on this gigantic attempt to swindle and oppress them. Kvery where the cry went up trom honest Democratic throats, against taking back the Wabash and Erie Canal, yet not a word is said by these Lccomptonitcs, about it. Every principle that was ever held sacred by Democrats, is laid aside by these pretended Democrats, in order to glorify their masters Bright, Willard fc Co. In conclusion we will say, that for the sake of some cherished principles contained in tho platform, which shines hko refined gold, besides the excrcsenecH that surrounded them, we endorse the platform, as tho least of two evils, and will do all wo can to elect tho worthy and good men who were nominated. Yet at tho same time, we shall do all we can to bring about reform, from the crying evils that are creeping into our Democratic fold, which if not soon checked will destroy us forever, with a sincere and ardent desire to glo

rify true aad genuine Democracy by our labors.

. WAftIII.(iTO. GOSSIP. Letter writers at the Capitol who have access to diplomatic circles say that a war be

tween Spain and Mexico is considered inevitable. The latest advices from Mr. Dodge state that it is tho generally received opinion at Madrid that Spain will shortly make a demonstration against Mexico. Sir Wm. Gore Ouscly and Lord Napier, tho two English Kepresentativcs in Washington are not getting along very smoothly. Rivalry and jealously havs already manifest ed themselves on more thanono occasion. Sir William keeps his special mission a secret

from My Lord Napier. The Republicans and Abolitionists have fixed their plans to oppose tho Lecompton

Constitution, which will shortly bo communicated to Congress. Mr. Blair, of Missouri, is to bo their leader. They arc confident that a sufficient number of Democrats will go with them to defeat it. The gross amount of expenses incurred for tho publio printing, binding, engraving, ic, of the thirty-third and thirty-fourth Congress Las just been ascertained.- Tho aocount stands as follows: Thi.ty-third Congress $2,600,000 Thirty-fourth Congrcsa 1,GOO,000 Total in four years $4,400,000 Tho sum of $700,000 is called for to make up tho deficiencies in the appropriations for this branch of tho public work. Smokxliss Fv unices. A Scotch inventor

has constructed a smokeless furnace, a main peculiarity of which is that tho draugh is reversed, that is, the flame, air, &c., ptocced downward through and from the fire, and on this account it is designated the down-draught furnace. The principal of its action is very simple. The smoke, liberated from the superincumbent coal, Is, by means of tho suction of tho chimney, carried along with a due admixture of air down through tho brightly burning fuel, which forms the lower stratum of the Ire, and thus becomes intensely heated and completely burned. By this arrangement the combustion is very rapid; in nomo experiments made with a grate ot live eighths

or a square loot in area, the combustion was at the rate of thirty pounds of coal per square foot of grato each hour tho height of the

chimney being nearly thirty-five feet. This result is probably due to 'the self-clearing Sower of the furnace, and the comparatively enso state of tho air wheu it minjles with

tho fuel. Tho combustion readily spreads upward to the freh coal, from tha" action ot tho strong radiant heat.
