The Doctor may be found at the City Hotel. ———<>——— ——>The weather is at all times a legitimate subject of remark. The past few days have embraced every variety, except real wintry weather. The mud in the streets is almost unfathomable and many of the crossings are "lost to sight." An enterprising laborer made the crossing at the corner of First and Main passable on Saturday, but at other point unfortunate pedestrians, struggled through at the imminent risk of life and limb. It has rained every forty-eight hours for a week past, and at the time we write the prospect of a "drying up" is not flattering. The roads between this point and Mt. Vernon are so bad that the mail is carried on horseback. It is said that in all directions the roads are in a worse condition than they have been for years. ———<>——— LOW FREIGHTS.—Within the past week pork has been shipped from this point to N. Orleans for 35 cents a barrel. One of the oldest shippers in the city tells us that it is the lowest freight he has known to New Orleans for twenty years. The steamboatmen have great difficulty in making the '"two ends meet" on their trips to New Orleans.— Over one hundred und fifty steamboats are laid up at St. Louis. ———<>——— Y. M. C. U. The Toon? Mr. STERRITT. ———<>——— ——>A Shooting affair occurred on Saturday afternoon in the vicinity of the Washington Hotel. An altercation took place between William Paine and Michael McConnell and ended in the latter discharging a shot gun at the head of the former. Several buck shot passed through Paine's hat, and one or two struck him in the ear, but fortunately he received no serious injury. His escape was a narrow one. Mr. McConnell was immediately arrested and conveyed to jail. ———<>——— HOGS.—The killing at this point is about over for the season. A lew contracts were mad last week at 4 i)(gJ 0.
