I Should it authorize an ekction by the pec-1 - lor any purposes, this electiou should t anthorized bv the Convention. -,..u 'i t,. dent recognizes the authority of lue Ivan- j aas Legislature, to order a rote on the I Constitution, and chit body has ordered I a vote on tho whole constitution. This seems to place the Kansas affair in a new light. If the citizens of the Territory accept the.Constitution, the question will be settled. The d UVrenceH in the Democratic party will thus be unexpectedly healed, and the Democratic paper which have taken iue with the President in the Lecompt jn matter are hastening to take advantage of this new position of the President and plce themselves "in line." Mr. Douglas will bo deprived of his capital for speech making, and in the absence of a slavery bone of contention in Congress, we ure likely to have tho re I wants of the country discusd and acted upon. All' well that end well. Kansas will bscouie a Slate, and the question of slavery in that quarter will be sealed up forever. ftCT 1'ho Enquires was a few dajs ao against Mr. Uou-Iai in the Kansas controversy and un the side o: Mr. Buchimin. Now it in tppos.ed to loth and says neither understand the great principle! of squatter sovereignty, which is tho Visit of territorial rights. Its edi tor think there was no obligation to su'rnit any portion of the Kansas constitution to a vote of (he people, becaue thj convention being the legal agents of tbi people, whatever it did. was an act of the people themselves, and to require the people-to appiove of their own doings is a vol ition of their political independence. I3y thii course of reasoning Congress cust permit the people of a territory to d j an they choose, hut to ask them to tell in some authentic mode what their choice mty be, i violation of their rights to keep silence, and not to tell any one what they do want. Therefore, to ro4uiie the people to vote on their own constitution, is an intringment of popular sovereignty. It is wrong to require them to vut3 on the slavery section, or on the whele constitution, because they have an inalienable right not to vote. and Mr. Buchanan was in error in sajing thay ought to vote on a part; and Mr. Douglai is equally mistaken in insisting that ilwy should vote on the whole consti'uiiou." Tue writer in the Enquirer is certainly origin!, and has blocked out a sect, on of democracy that may be called peculurly h's own, if there be any that can follow hi in in his conclusions. We k respectfully if this be Urightism? or is it heer nonsense? KT It is iid that lor aiwplkity and effi cacy, tho lighting apparstua in the Ilall of KeireM.ntÄürs ia without parallel.
