Sixteen coalboats bound for New Orlean,s were lost near Cairo in the storm, on Wednesday night, and only about 20 hands out of crew composed of 160 men, are known to be saved. It is supposed that over 100 hands were lost in the storm, which was the most violent ever known on the river. This fleet of boats are owned by the Messrs. Watsons', Morrison and McClusky, Faucett, Miller, O'Donnell and others of Pittsburgh, who have no insurance. They were all large, extra rigged boats, and carried a crew of two pilots and twenty men to each pair, each boat averaging 16,000 bushels of coal. As near as we can learn twenty boats were lost containing 300,000 bushels of coal, worth at least $36,000. The loss of life is deplorable, and will bring sorrow and distress to numerous families. The crews were principally from Pittsburgh and Louisville, and the vicinity of the Falls. Several other pairs of coalboats were lots at other points on the Ohio, on the same night. ———<>——— ——>Some twenty cases of small pox have been reported at Quincy, Illinois. ======= Atacand Fever, or Chills and Fever . . cinrn ur SflTH'S TONIC SYRUP.
