LVAUSVILLE, IND. THURSDAY MORNING... .OCT. S.
The Kentucky State Fair. The Kentucky State Fair opens on the Grounds near Henderson, Tuesday . . next, and will continue throughout the )V(reek. A number of fine cattle have "passed through this city within a few rrrr. : 9 en route ror Henderson, and wo hear that large droves are beins driv- , en across the State to be exhibited at the
- Fair. During the past year the managers
---- - of the District Agricultural Association have completed their amphitheatre, and
- it is now equal in size and beauty to any
in the State. The programme for the
. 't 1 -week is very attractive, and it is expect
ed tht the attendance will be larger th in at any previous State Exhibition. We need not say anything in regard to the horses and cattle of Kentucky. The finest stock in the State u ill be on the grounds, including Mr. Alcxanlaj's Arabian horses and imported cattle. t The arrangements for reaching lien- . derson from all points arc complete. Th. E. & C. Hail road will bring pausen jer-. froai Terre Haute and all way stations at half price, and the O. & M. ionl with its connections h ive made the same arrange nients. From I.vanvil!e we .-hill h-.w-.the Dowling Green every morr.ing.'v.ith any number of hacks, omnibuses aud carriages. The people along tho lower Oliio will have the J. U. Don it, w hielt will leave Pa lucah next Tuesday fore iv ou, touching at all way p nuts and arriving at Henderson WedncMiiy n-iniin; in time to reach the Fair GrmiruN by ii o'clock. Owing to the wi .hdiav. al of the Sc. Louis packets, person below wishing to visit the Fir will lind that the Don t is the only boat that can be trusted, and we hope to see her crowded next week on her up trip. Messrs. llerron and McCrackin will take cara ot all who go on the Done. Several Fire Companies' of this city have accepted an invitation from Captain Liter, and will go down with him o;i the Bowlin; Green, to the Fair, with th-.ir machines.
Tue Htrt'DLiCAX Coxvkntiov. after nominating candidates for the vacancies on the pouch of the Supreme Court, indulged' themselves in the pasiae i u series of resolutions expressive of their general views. They adopted the lickety Philadelphia platform of June 1SÖG, and resolve to stand steadfast upon it while a plank ternains. They denounce the -. conduct of the Administration towards Kansas, and condemn the opinion of the M Democratic Majority ot the Supreme Court in the Drc 1 Scott case," and the "language of the President in his Sll'.i mail letter.' They declare that the people of the State of ludiam have notwithstanding the opinions cf the Govcrnor and hi Attorney Geuer! i-iil! retained theriht to choose their own rulers and Judges." That the Demo crats "in breaking up the LegUIatuie without passing the necessary laws,'' have proved themselves to be " factious and untrustworthy representatives of the
people." That in the absence of a proclamation by the Governor, it is the right and duty of the people to elect two Supremo Judges. 'J hat the Governor in refining to call on extra session cf the Legislature which he has acknowledged to be necessary and by combining with the executive officers to extract money from the Treasury without'the authority of law, has violated his oath, and has foreshadowed a policy that is to bring discredit and bankruptcy upon the State. As the Democrats hive had the virtual control of the Legislature for a scries of years, and, every bank I ill passed, every bank created, his been by tho ac tive participation and exertion of leading members ofthat party, and cs the charter of the Dank of the State was obtained and huckstered for sale in tho money markets of New York and Cincinnati and other cities, and it? franchises finally -old for a largo sum of money, which was pocketed by leading (so called) Democrats, therefore the Democratic party is responsible for the depreciated bank notes in circulr.tioh to the injury of trade an ! the Io-u of the people" It was finally resolved that the UepuMican party is opposed to any paper currency tint is not "equal to gold dollars;" that is the representative or shadow, must have the su'&Unce of the thins represented, w hi.h is a quality very difficult to confer. The i Republican may there "ore be considered a " hard money " party henceforth. ' , - , . - - ( . Tue B.vxk of Salem in .thi State has been erroneously reported among the discredited Danks. The New Albany Ledger says hotv it got into this category we cannot imagine. It pays "its r.oti in specie on demin l, and will continue to To so at all hazards', liven in the Free B.mk crash of 1851, it did nosuspend for a sinta day. It is one of the strongest Bank3 in the West, and
will not falter." CTThe hanking house of E. W. Clarke & Brothers with their numerous branches, have; it is said, nearly $2,t00, 000 of assets a!o ve its liabilities. Their suspension was caused by the ru Men embargo place 1 upon exchange by the panic. They were before their sustension deemed to be above casualty.
