While discovery and invention are achieving vietories over time and spate, to which the fabled exploits of the ancient necromancers were mere trill es. they aro also lending new charms to the Poetry of Life. We arc to! 1 that this is an Utilitarian Ajze, a sordid dollar-worshipping era ; yes when we see tho chemist and the botanist combining their skill, knowledge and labor in the production of a perfume and cosmetic which fills ths boudoir and the dressing room with the most exquisite frajrraticc, and imparts freshness, purity and velvet softness to the complexion and the skin, we must admit that tho claims of taste and refinement are still recognixed amid the sterner pursuits of science. Ladies are not expected to bo deeply interested in the improvements of the steam engine, or in thu instantaneous conversion of crude iron into steel ; but when el eniistry ferni.-hes them such an articlj as Murray 5c Lanman's Florida Water, t hey bejrm to ti.ink that tha labratory is tn inestimable institution. Truly this accessory of the toik-t is a wonderful preparation. It embalms the living odors of the rarest flowers and aromatic plants of the South. The volatilo csssnec which they exhale, is f xed ar.d renden d l r-

Tho ftbric upon v.-h"u'h it is surinklcil nwivbe laid aside with the certain ty of finding the fragrance i uparted to it unimpaired, a month afterwards. Florists who nurse their hyacinths, camclias, und heliotropes in plaied conservatories, for tho sake of luxuriating amid summer odors in the depth f winter, will find the favor from their forced exotics far inferior to that of Murfay and Lannian's Florida Water. This may bo deemed extravajant commendation by some of our ladv reader, but before they doubt let tlierp make the comparison. It is not safe in this aire of stientilic miraeles to question tha properties of jany invention, merely because they seem incredible. We use the article for two reasons first, beeansc we relish its'aroma; and second, because it acts as an admirable counter-irritant i fter phavin?.
