Tho articles are 'well written, but now and then, you find a tirrade against tho South and its institutions, which would have graced lho columns of an nti-slavcry journal, but is Kully out of place, 4.a a magazine, devoted ostensibly to tho cultivation of literature. Withal, it is one of the best of our American periodicals. . Harper is known tho world over. The ."Monthly Record of Current Events, is prepared with great ability and care, whil the Editor's Easy Chair, is a very pleasant place for a half hour's Ioung3. The Editor's Drawer is a placo where old newspaper jokes, that havo bjen tloatinqj about newapapenlom sine the djys of tho liamago Press, re preserved, and frora titno to time, replenished. Harper will, however, always be a favorite with the -re-vim;' public. Tho April number is one of the best of the year. ' Household Words, wilh its sketcbes of ' English lifo, its satires and criticisms is be:foro us. Tho admirers of the author of Pickwick, will find in the columns of Household Words, an occasional article bearing the impress of Dickens' genius. His magazine is one of the'gums in our monthly budget. Tiis North British Review, for February, 'Contains its usual number of sterling reviews, "written by tho first journalists in England. It is republished in this country by Leonard Sott & Co., who also publish ail tho English Reviews. Chamber's Journal for February, a reprint of tho Edinlmrg edition, is a choico number and discusses tho current matters of the day in a light, fresh, sparkling manner. The new books are briefly reviewed in a masterly style. This magazine sells at 15 cents a ccny. The Schoolfellow is a mortal magazine for boys and girls It is always sprightly and entertaining. It publishes the best of stories, is fiuely illustrated, and its influence is in truetire, puro and excellent in every particular. We commend it heartily to the atten tion oi parents. Graham, now in the fiftieth volume is not inferior to any illustrated magazine in tho country. It gives a great variety of instruc tive and cntcrtainin? rcadin?. illustrated with first class engravings of every description. GouxY and Yaxkes Notions were noticed a few days sicco.
