MONDAY, MARCH 1C, 1 A. M. MI5IATURK ALMAXAC: H. H.H. Rubb fill RcbSsts C 8 Pat tub Carexkh. Our Carrier on th low er route complains of being subjected to much inconvenience in making hia collections. We presume the difficult does notarise from any indisposition on tbe part of the patrons of the - Journal to pay but merely from inadrertent ly neglecting to leave their dimes where the Carrier can get them on his day of collection. A larg share of the profits of his arduous business is already absorbed in his outstand ing debts. It will cost his patrons but a sin gle thought to relierc him from much incon venience in making his collections, and we are - sure they will not neglect him next Saturday Amkjde Honorable. John W. Nolan, at present occupying rooms in the county jail, feels himself much agriered by a mistake of our "local in substituting his name in place of Louis Britton, as the hero of the recent "ground hog" escape from the aforesaid jail. John holds himself far above doing so lota and
dirty an act and says that he looks to no ' other medium for escape than an honorable - acquittal by a Court and Jury, lie says he
was deluded and betrayed by wicked associates, and is now suffering the penalty and odium of their crime, if crime has been committed at all. He further adds that he has a
" respeotablo family who would be grieved to hear of his doing so dishonorable an act as the
one, innocently but erroneously, imputed to him in our columns. We wish Mr. Nolan
- speedy relief from his misfortunes. CT" Attention is called to the advertise- " mont of "llorso for Sale," in to-day's paper.
fjr-rendrich & Bros, announce in this morning's Journal, tho largest arrival of cigars and tobacce ever brought to the city at a single purchase. And what is more, they offer to sell them 20 per cent, cheaper than the same articles can bo the State. bought elsewhere in 07" We noticed a new dry goods store bein? tilled with goods in Mitchell's Block, on fiiturdny, nearly opposite our oflico. The packages were addressed to Archer & Mackey, which wo suppose is to be the style of the new firm. fj7" See Woolsey & Nelson's auction sales or groceries for to-day and to-morrow, an nounced this morning. . OT The Township Trustees have extend od the time for receiving proposals for build ing a bridge across Pigeon Creek. Mechan ics will still have an opportunity to put in Jot the contract. 07" We invite the attention of the public rand the old customers of the Western Star ' Clothing Store, to the fresh arrival of Spring , goods at th.3 old establishment. Tho littl - man has really outstripped all former efforts this Spring, in his tasteful selections of fashionable and fancy goods for the approaching season. A customer that Lobenstine can't fit either ready-made, or to order, deserves to go - seedy or uncouthly dressed, juts as he wi have to do the balance of Iiis life. Mil. Fbedebick Martin, a regular piano maker from Cincinnati, will remain in this city for a few days, for repairing and tuning pianos. Orders may be left in wrinting at the Journal office. It A Heavt Contract. William Mattoon, of Springfield, Mass., in connection with his brother has contracted to construct the abutments and towers for the suspension bridge over the Ohio river at Cincinnati. The towers are to be 230 feet hih, and the amount of the con tract is one million dollars. Fish kt Minnesota The Rice County Ilcrald says that fish form a prominent features in tho provision market, and if Henry Ward Deecher, and the fishing gentry generally will listen they shall hear a story that will exceed any of their experience. Four miles from Fair baul t a little stream formed by springs, empties into Canton Lake into the mouth of this stream the fish run in such abundance that a man has taken twelve at a - single dash of a hay fork, and in a few hours . has secured a waon load. A man living : near tho place, estimates that 40,000 lbs. were - taken in a few days and of tho quality that womld not sutler in comparison with Isew Hampshire trout. This Territory abounds in . beautiful Lakes, and the Lakes contain 'most d4Ücious pike, bass, trout and pickerel, in an unlimited abundance. Wouldn't some of the i fcUowers of Isaac Walton be a little surprued iitto see a man angling with a pitch fork, and - ineaseixing bis fish in a two-horse Wo xeckon so! wajon Tjn Atlantic Teleoraph. The TJ. S. cteamahips Mississippi and Niagara are being prepared at the Navy Yard in New York to Assist in laying down the sub-Marine Tele graph. They are two the largest steam frigates in our Nary. KIVER INTELLIGENCE. The River has agiin become too low for large boats abovo this point, and still contin ues to recede. eather prospects are unfa vorable for a speedy rise. The favorite Memphis packet North erner passed here on her down trip Saturday, I uliy Ireighted with goods and passengers. From the capital it swept on, a furious gale, fourteen hours to ev York; thence to lies ton it was six hours on tho march; to Port land only four, railroad speed, making in all twenty-four hours from 2torth Carolina to Maine, half the extent of the Unio"n. Further reports of this terrific storm, which is known to have swept furiously along the Nova Scotia coast, have not reached us. And here it is to be observed that the cold, the wind, and the snow storm had each its own speed of march, the accurate discr ption of which does not seem to bavo been observed. This storm as our readers well know, has proved very destructive along the entire; At lantic coast. The loss by sea alone, in . the month of January, to say nothing of the sus nension of travel, delar of mail, and dorano - ---y - - o

Patent Spkino Saddle. Mr. Ward, of this place has procured & patent for this article that for case to borso and rider, excels any thing of the kind we have seen. Its durabili tr and simplicity will recommend it to those who clesiro comfort in rid in?. It adds but little to the cost and there is no danger of its ;n;llr;n the horse.
