our drapery is guided by the same rules of taste, and must have an eye and talent to cx ecute e'jual to him who draws the lines upon canras, and moulds them in clay. An elev gant fijjjuro is made awkward by an ungraceful garment; and ungraceful figures may b imado comely and pleasing by the tiste and art of tho dress maker. The oi l adage that - ine uiior ranKcs ine-rn-in, is ciireiuci uw. ill itb a pleasure to to our streets filled with graceful male and female forms, those "who by draping them, conceal tho defects of nature, and tho ill-consequences of etil habits -aro public benefactors and truo artists, and -deserVo tha honors and encourgement of the public. In this liht our friend I). S. Anders in is a gcnu;ne artist, and is doing more for ths credit of our gentlemen, and to make them . pass current ia the world as men of true worth, than the State Tunk has even done for them. We arc indebted to him for attracting more charming wives and fire-sido friends to our city than the railroad would have eTen brought, without his co-operation, lie is ds--cidedly a public benefactor, and deserves the support of the whole city. 03" It will bo seen that tho New Branch of the Hank of the State in this city is fully - organized with an excellent board of officers, and will soon be prepared for business. Obstruction o'. t:is Sidewalks. Our Merchants do not pay much attention to the "Ordininct requiring sidewalks to be kept clear from obstructions. They are too narrow even when unencumbered with boxes and bales, and they should tie kept cleared for the conTtnienco of passers-by. Projecting signs, cellar doors, and doorsteps occupying in many pla ces, from four to tire feet ought not to bo tolratecf. A few days since we noticed on one of our public thoroughfares, two rows of barrels lining the side -walk, allowing a passage of about three feet for pedestrians. The present style of dress would prevent the ladies from using that street for a promenade. Tublie convenience demands that all these obtructions should be removed. Thk New Bask. The Branch of the new " State Rank was organized on Wednesday. The following gentlemen were elected Directors! Geo. V. Rathbone, Robert Parrctt, II. Q. Wheeler, George Foster and Robert R. .Roberts. At a meeting of the Board the following officers were chosen: GEO. W. BAT 1 1 BONK, President. SAMUEL BAYARD, Cashier. The Branch will be ready for active business operations on the ISth of May. Thk Weather. Under tho influence of thj warm weather of the last few days, the fr lit buds were represented to bo swelling, and becoming exposed to serious injury from frost. The colder temperature of yesterday -and to-day, will he regarded by our neighboring fruit-growers as a welcome change.
