A shocking calamity occurred at tha house of the Her. U. II. Havens, a Wesl'an Methwli-tt Clergyman, residing about four miles south of this village, on Wednesday afternoon, 21st ult., whereby three persons weru killed and a fourth injured ""bayond recovery. It appstrs that Mr. Havens was encased in the prep.ir ition of a lal.Natn, of which the principal ingredient was spirits of turpcntmii. He had about two gallons of tin Hul l and a quantity of rosin bailing together -in an open vessel, upon the stove. By home .nrens tiro was communicated to the inttamMj mixture, and while Mr. II. was endeavorin to convey it out of tho door, an explosion 1 took place, scattering the burning lluid over Hhe persons of himself, his wife and thrca children, who were in the room, and soiling tire to tha building. ' Mr. Chas. Brandaire, a near neighbor, who "was ensod in work not far from the house, hearing cries of distress, went tn ascertain tho cause. .Tha scene as described by Lira must be truly heart-rending. The force of the explosion was so great as to shatter every wn low in the house. They were carefully placed in tho sleigh of Jar. Brundage. and taken to his house, where they received every attention and caro that -could ba bestowed, but without hope cf saving their lives. Mr. Havens died at J o'clock P. M., of the same day.' The youngest daughter l at 2 A. Mn of the 22d, and the mother at 9 A. M. of the aame day. Tho son still lingers, but with no hope of recovery. ' .
